Century Group, Inc recieved letter stating I won a home improvement grant. was told to cash the check they gave me for 4,970 and send "legal fee's", then I get 39K Manhattan New York

I recieved a letter from Century Group, Inc. it included a check for 4,970.and said I was one of the 250 people randomly chosen to recieve a home improvement grant. My award was for 39,000.

There was a list of Donor's including wal-mart, office depot, best buy ect... the letter also said it was sponsered by publishers clearing house and readers digest. It said this is not a loan. you have won the grant. I called the number as instructed and was told the check was to help pay the legal fee's. I should deposit into my account and then go to western union and send 2998.00 to Betty Waller 740 lodan st Brooklyn NY 11208. as soon as I do that, call and give them the confimation number and then I will recieve the rest of the grant to equal a total of 39,000 in 3-5 business days.

These people put alot of effort into this rip off. When I challanged the young man on the phone (which by the way his accent was so strong I had a hard time understanding him most of the time) he reassured me I could call the 800# on the check to verify It is an official check. of course I did that and got a recording asking me to enter the check number and low and behold the recording verified it. of course when I tried to speak to a person, the recording told me to leave my name and number and some one would call me back. big surprise there. I did a reverse check of the bank number 1-866-303-5781 (US BANK) and of course it was unlisted. I also did a reverse check on the number I called and it was for a "Fido inc" in ON.

I was suspicious the second I open this letter but played along to see what it was all about. I feel terribly sorry for the poor people that are getting ripped off by these people. these people need to be prosecuted, and at the very least made to get a real job like the rest of us.
