Mike Arant from Charleston Pool and Spa came to our home in January. We got 4 estimates and carefully considered everything that this company promised. We signed an agreement on March 1. After going through the approval processes, Mike said everything would be done in April.

It is now August, we have paid Mike/Charleston Pool and Spa nearly $50000.00 and it's still not done. We have tried and tried to work with this company. Mike says he is a partner with Briggs Enterprises. Out of shear frustration, we even did some of the labor.

After disappearing for a month, Mike just told us, in essence, that he is abandoning the project unless we pay him $750.00 more...even though he acknowledges that:

1) There is concrete and all kinds of construction residue attached to the pool and he has the solution to remove it.

2) He was not there as expected when the concrete patio was poured, and the pattern was applied incorrectly. The manufacturer said the only way to fix it was to take a sledge hammer to it. We asked Mike to fill some of the holes and gaps, but, for some reason known only to God, he walked around with a cutter, making more holes and slashes. We then spent the better part of 3 days filling his mistakes ourselves because Mike said he could match it all up. He didn't and it looks much worse

3) The color of the concrete is completely off because Mike failed to test an area, as per the manufactures directions.

4) The concrete already has numerous cracks
5) Mike said the concrete would have a slip resistant finish. It does not. It is very slippery. Our young son fell the second day and hit his head

6) This is a fiberglass pool that has bumps All Over The place. There is not a single flat anywhere. Not the sides or bottom...even though we waited for him to fill and empty the pool twice...drill holes in the pool...all in an attempt to get it flat.

7) We paid for 4 stone dolphin statues which Mike mounted on rubber pads he bought for about $1. We had to call the manufacturer who said this was this Not recommended and it was Dangerous. Mike carelessly handled these statues, causing knicks and scratches. He has the stuff to fix it, but will not.

8) Mike has refused to give us the owners manuals and had said we should call him if something goes wrong. We never got some of the little things...complete beginning package...caps he promised...

9)10) Mike promised to remove dirt and leave the area graded. Instead, he moved the dirt around, ruining more sprinkles and sod. We went through this process 3 times. Finally, he took most of it away, leaving a huge ungraded mess. I wish information like this had been available before I went with this company.

This has been such an horrible experience. We had such high hopes for our back yard project and this summer in particular. Our son leaves for college next year...how do you put a value on that? Consumers Desired Resolution: Settlement requested:The same thing we asked over and over...keep your word. Once we came to an agreement on March 1, we never asked for anything new...and while we were going through all of this, Mike would complain to us that he hated being in construction. (the above is from the BBB)

Charleston Pool and Spa is Dedicated to Customer Satisfaction

AUTHOR: Cps - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 24, 2008

Charleston Pool and Spa has been in Business 14 years and is dedicated to customer satisfaction. The Better Business Bureau is in the process of dropping this case and Charleston Pool and Spa is still in good Standing.

Mike Arant visited the property several weeks ago to collect the final payment due from the homeowners. He went through all the closeout procedures on how to operate the pool, etc. The homeowner complained that the dolphin fountains were not shooting far enough across the pool, to remedy the situation Mike Arant suggested that a booster pump be installed to make the fountains shoot clear across the pool for 750.00. At that point the homeowner became very hostile shouting obsenities and point fingers in Mike Arant's face. and he was asked to leave the property at once. As mike Arant was leaving the homeowner said that Charleston Pool and Spa may win in a court of law but not in the court of public opinion. The total Invoice on this Job was 47,000.00 the homeowner still owes charleston Pool and Spa approximatly 3200.00. Charleston Pool and Spa contractually completed the job/singed contract by both parties. Most of the homeowners complaints are completely false, they have currently set up a website bashing Charleston Pool and Spa. They will be sued for slander/libel and for the final balance due.

I will address each line item.

1. There may be a few spots of tape residue left on the pool that can be wiped off. This was a major construction process. This was never adressed in our last visit to the homeowners house.
2. This statement is a complete lie!! Steve Martin from Schofield, never made this statement. I called him last week only to find out the homeowner called his corporate office to try to get him fired, saying he snuck on to the property and was peeking through there windows terrorizing their children. Mr. Martin has agreed to testify in court on Charleston Pool and Spa's Behalf.
3. We purchased the Concrete Color from Schofield, after Steve Martins Visit we applied a lighter sealer. It will lighten up!. The Concrete Deck Looks great. We are adding photos of their completed project to our website..
4. Concrete cracks and the cracks are falling into the expansion joints. None of this information was brought up at our last visit to the home.. It is a simple fix, we did not see any problems.
5. The concrete does have a slip resitant finish. The appropriate materials were applied to the sealer make the deck a non slip surface.. A pool deck can always be slippery, we apply the materials to make it as slip resistant as possible..
6. here fiberglass pool shell has been installed by industry standards and has been viewed by a represenative from the pool manufacturer. They're pool looks great!!!
7. The dolphins were originall installed incorrectly, they were then fixed by industry standards. No nicks were noted at the time of installation. We have photos ogf the dolphins. No nicks noted... this was not brought up on the last visit to the home.
8. Owners manuals/warranties are not issued until final payment is received.
This is noted in the homeowners singed contract.
9. We removed 5 loads of dirt and graded the clay the best way possible. The landscapers were to bring in topsoil and do the final grade. Clay cannot be graded properly!! and it was agreed that the landscapers were going to bring in gradable dirt and grade it.. There yard and pool look magnificent!!!

Charleston Pool and Spa has been in business 14 years, this homeowner is not being truthful and there are wittnesses that will testify to this when this goes to trial. Ultimately, The Pool Job looks great!! Several people asked us what is wrong with these homeowners. The received a 65,000.00 project for 47,000.00, which now they still owe 3200.00. We have a list of great references and will continue to strive for customer satisfaction.

Charleston Pool And Spa RUN..don't walk away from Charleston Pool and Spa Charleston South Carolina

AUTHOR: Ripped off - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 10, 2008

Mike Arant from Charleston Pool and Spa came to our home last January when we were considering 4 different companies for our pool project. Mike said that he is part owner of the company. Unfortunately, the promises Mike and his company make are terrific, but the workmanship is terrible. He worked thoughtlessly, carelessly, haphazardly, when he bothered to show up at all. We believed in him and have paid nearly $50,000.00. He said everything would be done in April. It's now August and he has abandoned the project. We tried everything we could think of to work with this company, and even did some of the labor ourselves. Mike acknowledges that 1) The concrete part of the project was close to $10,000.00, and Mike promised he's be there for the entire concrete process; 2 days. He was MIA and the pattern was applied incorrectly. The manufacturer said the only way to fix it was to take a sledge hammer to it. We asked Mike to fill some of the holes and gaps, but, for some reason known only to Mike, he walked around with a cutter, creating More holes and slashes. We then spent the better part of 3 days filling his mistakes ourselves because Mike said he could match it all up. He didn't and it looks much worse 2) The color of the concrete is completely off because Mike failed to test an area, as per the manufactures directions. 3) The concrete already has numerous cracks. Mike said he wouldn't pay the concrete guys until we were happy. He arranged a meeting at our house in the middle of the day. We left work to be there. Mike wasn't there, but 3 very unhappy concrete guys were. 4) Mike said the concrete would have a slip resistant finish. It does not. It is very slippery. Our young son fell the second day and hit his head 5) There is concrete and all kinds of construction residue attached to the pool and he has the solution to remove it, but never bothered. One of his workers took a razor to it (or something similar) and there are permanent scratches. 6) This is a fiberglass pool that has bumps Everywhere...even though we waited for him to fill and empty the pool twice...drill holes in the pool...all in an attempt to get it flat. 8) Mike has refused to give us the owner's manuals and had said we should call him if something goes wrong. We never got some of the little things...complete beginning package...caps he promised... 9)10) Mike promised to remove dirt and leave the area graded. Instead, he moved the dirt around three times in an attempt to make it look flat. This ruined more sprinkles and sod. He took away a load in his pickup truck, but left a huge ungraded mess. I wish information like this had been available before I went with this company. This has been such a horrible experience. We had such high hopes for our back yard project and this summer in particular. Our son leaves for college next year...how do you put a value on that? We came to an agreement last winter and never asked for anything new, only that Mike and his company Keep Their Word. The only explanation Mike ever gave was that the time it took trying to get the pool in the ground right, was too long and made his profit too small. He also said that not a day goes by that he doesn't wake up and wish he was doing something else.

RUN away as fast as you can if you are even considering Charleston Pool and Spa. The promises and terrific, but the workmanship is terrible.

RUN away as fast as you can if you are even considering Charleston Pool and Spa. The promises and terrific, but the workmanship is terrible.

Here is what happened to us: Mike Arrant from Charleston Pool and Spa came to our home in January. We got 4 estimates and carefully considered everything that this company promised. They do not. 10) Mike promised to remove dirt and leave the area graded. Instead, he moved the dirt around, ruining more sprinkles and sod. We went through this process 3 times. Once we came to an agreement on March 1, we never asked for anything new. We did ask for Mike and his company to keep their word. The only explanation that Mike/Charleston Pool and Spa gave was Mike said that not a day goes by that he wishes he was not in construction. Also, trying to straighten out the pool took too much time and the manufacturer should have told him what to do, even though at the time of the estimate he said our selection was his personal favorite.
