Chase Moving Company, Detroit, MI, advertised itself as a reliable, inexpensive moving company, however, the entire operation is centered on deceit and extortion.  Having had a similar experience with my daughter's move to Chicago, I believe this "scam" may be widespread in the inexpensive movers' business.  Chase Moving Company sent 2 men to move us from an apartment to a duplex 8 miles away.  Two men showed up...one young and one who was far from spry in body or attitude.

The move out was smooth enough although my husband was forced to work much too hard due to the lack of energy evident in the elder of the two movers.  The real scam began when we arrived at our new place.  The routine began with a call from their manager who informed uson the older guy's cell phoneu (in an inexplicably indigent tone) that his men must be paid in cash "now" before our stuff would be moved in, and that we would be charged for many more hours than were necessary. If these instructions were not complied with, we were told they would drive away with our worldly goods.

My husband began to go a little nuts and there was talk about calling the police, however, the gangster manager asked to speak with "the Mrs." (me) thinking I would be less aggressive than my husband. I talked circles around him regarding the final charge, however, the "cash" issue was (not surprisingly) not negotiable, and the "Mr" went to the bank to give them their extorted cash.  The the younger of the two guys was actually a fine young man caught in a bad situation in which he had to subject himself to both back-breaking work and the wrath of each poor sucker who used Chase Moving Company's services.  If you don't want to add more significant stress to an already tough moving day, do not use Chase Moving Company in Detroit, MI!!!!
