This is an update to our very flustrating and calender full of promises from Clayton Home. Here it is March 19, 2003, we've lived here since February 28, 2002, over a year now and we haven't had much success on having repairs done in our house that was promised, it's been just re-fixing and re-fixing! We're now going on our 3rd new carpeting and linoleum. Our bowed ceilings in one of our bedrooms stilled hasn't been fixed along with numerous other things that have to be replaced, where does it all end or doesn't it??

I contacted the Attorney General Office, The BBB, 7 on Your Side(TV station in Little Rock, Ar.) The Attorney General's Office sent me a formal complaint form which I filled out and sent back, they did mail the carbon copy to Ron Pruitt(manager of Clayton Homes in Mtn. Home, Ar.) That did get their attention some but, there not moving fast.

Sounds like their still hiring some incompete crewworkers, which is still one of there bigger downfalls. Ron P. keeps saying, Oh, I'll have this person come out and do the work, then the next phone call, Oh, I"ll have this person do the work. Their great at tearing things apart but never fixing or re-fixing! Since last June 2002 they have been ordering materials for our house, either it's the wrong material or not enough material or they screw up the material!!

Last Friday, March 14, 2003, 2 men came here to fix the bowed ceilings, they layed the plastic on the floor, took some pictures, installed a new countertop(1 section), which was the wrong coutertop, Again? Does this sound familiar? I was informed that we were shy of having 10-11 ft.of our new(3rd) carpeting, that would have to be re-ordered, Again?

Today I have 1 crew person here, laying new underlayment in my dining room-kitchen-utility room, getting ready for More linoleum, Again? The 1st reason for new linoleum in the beggining was because of a bunch of nail holes popping up-the 2nd time was because the incompeted crew person cut slashes in the lino.several spots away from the cupboards and facings and did not hook back up the refrig. hose properly, there was a slow leak across the flooring for 3 weeks, it soaked the underboard! It had to be removed to dry out, it's been drying out since last October-2002! What a joke!

Coperate office in Maryville, Tenn. is at fault just as much as the office in Mtn. Home, Ar. for letting this all happen, it all starts from the Top, somebody isn't doing there job properly! And it has caused alot of unnessary heartache-headaches!

I've e-mailed customer service at the coperate offices several times and it's delivered down to the District manager, Danny Mills and then filtered down to Ron Pruitt(local manager). Wished I could set down and have a heart to heart talk with the big guy.

The crew person they sent over today to lay the underboard is lacking a few, don't know which branch he came off of! I had to show him how far the lino. will have to go inside a door casing! I called Ron P. about this and he said, Yea, you gotta watch 'em! I shouldn't have to watch anybody!!!!

I've even tried to get Ron P. to take this piece of crap of a home back and let them work on it all they want, on their lot! But he says it's not possible because of all the paper work it would reqire, come on Ron! Come on Clayton! They don't want to because we're paying 13.49 interest rate-700.00 a month payment, Get off of it Clayton....Get in Gear!! We're p----d!!....Another Unhappy Customer.

I Too Am Victim Of Clayton Homes

AUTHOR: Lillian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 29, 2004

We bought a NEW home from Clayton Homes, Anderson, SC in June 2002. We have been through almost the exact same scenario as you. When our home was set up not all marriage bolts were put in, the roof was not sealed in the center either and not even tied down!! We have bowed ceiling panels, poorly constructed cabinets.

We also have had the exact same problem with our kitchen floor with the nails popping through due to not sanding the floor at the factory.

We filed complaints with the BBB, Consumer Affairs & had the SC Manufactured Housing Board come in 9/2002 to inspect the home. They found 10 out of compliance issues with it.

Like you said almost every repair they do is a nightmare. When we first moved in and discovered that some of our windows would not open, their answer was to send out some idiots that used a hammer to beat the metal side framing of them until they did.

After I saw the damage that this caused they ended up replacing the windows completely. We have upside down plumbing in our showers so Hot is Cold and Cold is Hot, air leaking through the electical outlets on the outside walls inside the home, flickering lights, electrical outlet popping out in the bathroom wall, bowed wall studs, sagging celing panels etc.

I would love to see others post complaints here so we can maybe all work together to sue this builder. There are other resources I am working on to deal with this company and will post more info soon.

My husband was told by the new company V.P. that Clayton has only a 2% complaint record, however I believe that is only because many people give up or do not know where to go for help. Also there is more power in numbers. More complaints - more action. I hope finding more web sites like this will help bring more of these complaints out into the open and get compainies like Clayton to deliver the quality of products and service they promise.
