I ENROLLED IN MY EMPLOYER'S DENTAL PROGRAM AND SET AN APPOINTMENT TO GO TO COAST DEENTAL. I WENT IN AND THEY RAN A SET OF X RAYS. THEN THE FUN BEGAN. THE DENTIST CAME IN AND REVIEWED MY X RAYS. A DENTAL ASSISTANT TOLD ME THAT I WAS RECOMMENDED FOR A SERIES OF "DEEP CLEANING" APPOINTMENTS FOR MY TEETH. THIS WOULD COST ME A TOTAL OF 1200.00 IN ADDITION TO MY CITY DENTAL PLAN!
I HAVE BEEN GETTING REGULAR DENTAL CHECKUPS FOR YEARS AND KNEW MY TEETH WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. THE CITY DENTAL PLAN WAS SUPPOSED TO COVER TWO DENTAL CLEANINGS A YEAR AT NO ADDITIONAL COST FROM THE DENTIST.
IT WAS CLOSE TO CLOSING TIME FOR COAST DENTAL AND THE DENTAL ASSISTANT PRESSURED ME BY TELLING ME THE DENTAL HYGIENIST WAS GETTING READY TO GO HOME AND WHAT DID I WANT TO DO?
I FIGURED I WOULD AT LEAST GET THE INITIAL CLEANING AND THEN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. WHEN I WENT INTO SEE THE DENTAL HYGIENIST SHE TOLD ME I NEEDED AN ROTADENTAL PERIODONTAL THERAPHY INSTRUMENT (ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH) AND HOME FLURIDE RINSE. SHE ALSO SET ME UP WITH A SERIES OF APPOINTMENTS FOR MY "DEEP CLEANING". I THINK THE "DEEP CLEANING" WAS OF THE WALLET!!!
I LIKED THE ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH SO I AGREED TO BUY BOTH. I WASN'T SURE OF THE COST AND THE HYGIENIST NEVER MENTIONED HOW MUCH THEY WERE. THE LONG AND SHORT IS THE TEETH CLEANING COST ME $100.00. THE TOTAL BILL WAS $228.93!THE INSURANCE COVERED NONE OF THE BILL. THE ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH AND ORAL RINSE WERE $125.93 OF THE TOTAL.
I TOOK THE TOOTHBRUSH AND RINSE HOME AND PUT THEM IN THE CLOSET. I CANCELLED MY SERIES OF "TREATMENTS" THEY HAD QUICKLY SCHEDULED FOR ME FOR THE NEXT DAY. TWO DAYS LATER I BROUGHT THE ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH AND ORAL RINSE BACK TO COAST DENTAL TO HAVE THEM CREDIT MY ACCOUNT.
THE OFFICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT SHE WOULD CREDIT MY ACCOUNT BUT IT WOULD TAKE 6-8 WEEKS TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE HOME OFFICE TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK! IT IS A MONTH LATER AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE OK FROM THE HOME OFFICE OF COAST DENTAL TO GET MY $125.93. LOOK OUT!!!!!!!!

So it sound Coast Dental is up to their old dirty work. Years ago (around '98), I also went to a Coast Dental (in Lake Miriam center) due to it was the only dental office my dental coverage listed. I too knew I didn't need any "extra" services but was told the EXACT same thing about the deep cleaning and the perodontal wash and toothbrush. I TRULY feel the employees are taught pressure/ convincing tactics to say to patients. Reminded me of telemarketers that have a reply for ANY response. They too set me up with an appointment that I cancelled days later and never went back. I contacted my Dental Insurance provider and complained. Not sure if it did any good!! I think it would be very interesting to hear from a past (as I'm sure a present employee wouldn't rat) employee of their "procedures".
