Colorado Technical University is a rip-off. They pretend to be nice to you until they get your money. As for education, they have you to download books, then request assignments from you. They don't teach you anything. During the online classes, the Instructors primarily talk about their personal lives. Some of the Instructors are extremely nasty toward students. I have been with CTU for two semesters, and I am planning to get out of this money-hungry-rip off-scam as soon as possible. Take my word for this; I am a 54 year old woman who was seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management. Now, I am $15,000 in debt with this school, and they have not taught me anything. I have received high grades, but everything that I used for the assignments, was my skill that I had before I enrolled in this school. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! CTU are money hungry, scam artists. :-(

Current Student

AUTHOR: Josh - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, June 21, 2012

I am currently enrolled at CTU, on schedule to graduate with my B.S.B.A. - Project Management in 2013. Granted, I am taking undergraduate courses not at all the level of Ph.D courses, but I can confidently say that I am enjoying my experience thus far. I've been in and out of schools for years and have always struggled to maintain attendance. I've either been in the military or a working professional my entire life and it can be extremely difficult to balance your career with your education. I did some research on CTU before enrolling and I knew what I was getting into before I joined. The internet is free folks, you need to read up on your school before you sign up. If features exist about it, you don't like, then don't sign up.

I like CTU because it's one of the more reputable online schools out there, that uses such an aggressive schedule. It's kind of a total package for what I needed. There are other schools, public schools even, that offer online courses, but they are much more demanding of your time and may require you to show up weekly or every two weeks...they still call their classes "online". My work schedule is extremely demanding and subject to travel. This school has everything I need to work around my schedule.

Just like any other school, there are good professors and bad ones. Many of the professors I've had, work at multiple schools, including ground campuses elsewhere. You can look at this as a good or bad thing. Good, because it shows they bring on qualified personnel, bad, because many of the professors tend to have very tight schedules. That being said, I have never had a professor who didn't respond to an email or didn't provide their personal number for over the phone assistance if it was sought out. If you have a bad instructor, you report them and/or you give them a poor write up in the course survey. CTU asks their students to critique every course upon completion. This feedback is the only way they know how to improve their practices.

Yes, they are a for-profit school, but that also means, they want to provide you a good service to ensure your patronage and recommendations to others. The point of any business is to ensure the customer is happy and tells others to shop there as well. The onsite library and archives are very informative. I watched a 6hr tutorial on MS Project Pro that taught me everything I needed to know about the program. There are tons of "lab" tutorials you can watch, whether or not it's a part of your degree program. Plus, as alumni, you can log into the school's site and utilize their resources whenever you want. Plus, they are only one of a handful of schools that work with PMI and help to expedite your PMP certification process, one of the biggest reasons I went to this school. Certs seem to be the hotness right now and the PMP is very desirable in my line of work.

And lastly, the school is expensive as all hell, I'll admit that. But for the convenience and service they provide, I think it is worth it for me. That being said, however, I may look to a "bigger name" when taking my MBA graduate courses, because, unfortunately, there are too many postings like the one above who give CTU a bad reputation.

CTU online

AUTHOR: Nila - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, April 23, 2012

It seems everyone that has something positive to say about this school has attended two year or more ago. Please keep in mind before you start to do a rebuttal on someone's current experience things do and have changed.  Colleges do go downhill, and that is because of the lack of skills professors possess. I too was a student of CTU online, and at first it started off great, after the second semester I started having the worst experience with instructors.  They were rude, incompetent, provided no feedback and rarely graded assignments and this was in a PhD program.  At this level students come to expect more from a college, especially when you look at how much is being charged.  It doesn't make sense when students are teaching each other.

When complaints were filed by myself and other students with the Dean the only response we all received was that the new instructors aren't on the same page as CTU and they hope to rectify the problem.  How does that help a student with the current situation?  It doesn't, and when the professor finds out you filed a complaint you are the one who suffers.

So granted for those who had a great experience with CTU two or more  years ago that is great. Unfortunately students that are currently attending CTU wish they were able to have those experiences but unfornately can't and need to let future students know what they are signing up for.

Rebuttal to: CTU Ripoff

AUTHOR: Jack - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, April 19, 2012

I am aware that individuals have different experiences in life and I respect that. But I have to express the experience I have had at CTU. I started attending CTU in April of 2010 and graduated in December 2011 Magna c*m Laude with a B.S. in accounting with great success and a very positive experience.

The professors I had were well versed on the subject that they were teaching and they were very supportive to my success in their class. The support of the learning center is great and the library resources are amazingly easy to navigate.

I am currently continuing my eduation at CTU on a MBA with a concentration in accounting and still have the same quality professors I have experienced in my undergraduate courses. It is unfortunate that some have had a bad experience at CTU but sometimes it may be a personal issue that interferes with the overall experience. It is important to be personally responsible when taking an online education and with a dedicated approach most should have a positive experience at CTU.

To address the initial post directly I never found the professors to be nasty to the students. The cost that was experienced by the individual is not what I have experienced what so ever. CTU from my experience and good judgement is not a rip-off what so ever.

So I hope this will counter some bad information the initial post is portraying.
