Someone opened a Columbia House account with my name in 2005. I received a hit on my credit reports from KCA Collection Service on Nov 9th which was the first I'd heard of an account with Columbia House. Email after email to Columbia House got me no where, and the stuff they did tell me did meant nothing to KCA about the balance I owe them. When this accouct was opened in florida I lived in Arizona .

How can these criminals impact good peoples credit and no one cares anyhting about it???? I have NEVER paid one thing late on my credit and now this?? What a scam!! After reviewing the thousands of complaints on the internet I am surprised that a good lawyer has not filed a class action against BMG/Columbia house.

I have found a number not automated like CH's number. The lady's name is Shana and she's in customer service. Her number is: 317-542-6421 but she won't help either....

everyone wants something for nothing

There seems to be a big problem with some people and Columbia House and there is no middle ground either you love it or you hate it. but the experiance is all up to the consumer. The company has hundreds of thousands of members, the club rules are very simple. but if you are one of the thousands who don't take the time to find out the rule by reading the membership guide you may be one that hates the club. People join the club for the "free stuff" but come on americans, nothing is free!

There is always a catch, so when you join a club and you don't take the time to find out how the club works do you really have a right to "b***h". Read the enrollment guide it tells how the club works, it explains the directors selections, and how to respond if you don't want it, it tells if you payed for your enrollment with a credit card that is the way you will continue to be billed in the future untill you tell us other wise.

America is filled with people who wont read or listen and that is why they get into the difficulties they do, then they want to blame everyone else except themselves, I used to fell sorry for these people when I first started working at columbia house, but now the callers just make me shake my head. Over and over all day long I have to explain how the club works, for the people who know how the club works most of them love it they pay full price of 19,95 for one item and all other dvds they buy are 50 to 60% off the regular price, you cant go to walmart and tell them you will only pay full price for one item and you want the rest for 50% off the regular price.

There is a commitment to buy so many movies after you get your enrollment package if you don't like that returne the enrollment package and the account will be closed with no further obligation, there are shipping charges, there is a cost to having a mil order business and the postage and handeling is part of it, the company needs to remain competive so to update the warehouse and pay postal expenses the company has to charge this.

People call for things they could have found out by reading the guide but americans are growing lazy and want to be bottle fed their information, it is time for people to take responsibility for their own actions, pay attention on the web, if you are given an offer take time to read the offer in full, that is why people in other countries think we are stupid, we assume too much and blame everyone else when our assumptions are wrong. I love Columbia House, I am regret some people who join don't know they are joining a club, or they think it is a rip off, but they didn't take a few moments to find out how the club could best work for them they were just trying to work the club and get something for nothing, as we all know clearly doesn't exist in the real world.

First off, if you haven't already, send letter by cert mail to BMG denying the claim.

If this collection co is hounding you already, file written response to them the same way.

Have you filed any reports with local police regarding theft of identity? If not, would be a good idea, if someone unknown has actually opened credit account(s) with companies you don't know. Read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, it is easily found on the web.

And, if you don't feel you're able to handle this on your own, consult an attorney locally.

You do have the right to rebut anything on your credit reports, esp information that is put there in error, contact each credit reporting agency. Good luck!
