*Explanation The issue pertains to overdraft fees that were applied to my account when my account balance was in the POSITIVE. I have documents from my online banking that show these actions. While being in the positive, I received four consecutive overdraft fees, mind you while being in the positive. This created a s****.> Outcome

I think what they will tell you...

AUTHOR: Ken - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 17, 2008

In your posting you admit that you transacted on the 14th, and covered it on the 15th. I assume this was a debit card transaction. In this situation the bank is going to hit you with a NSF charge because when you swiped the card on the 14th, at that point, the bank was legally obliged to cover that debit. At that moment, you were technically overdrawn. Consider this, on the 14th the bank has no way of guarenteeing that you are coming in on the 15th to cover the debit.

People generally assume that debit cards work like checks, in as much as you could write a check and then (hopefully) cover it before it cleared. With a debit card, if the money isn't in the account when you swipe the card, you're overdrawn.

There is a benefit in banking with a community financial institution (like a credit union) since they will at least listen to you if you point out that the account was funded before the actual item cleared, and will often rebate the fees. You have to remember though, this is a courtesy and not something you are entitled to.
