CompUSA in Emeryville California is overcharging for a Belkin "y" adapter cable (f3g117-01). The store charges $62.
I checked Dells web site and they are charging $17. Other web websites are comparible. CompUSA web site is cheaper. They are charging $49 which is still excessive.
I didn't buy the product from CompUSA, but was disgusted enough to write the comment. They deserve to go out of business.

It's all about profits...

Cables, mice, disks... All of these little "add on" items are where CompUSA and other companies make all of their money. They make an ungodly amount of profit from these items.
Markups of 500% are not uncommon. I used to work for them and know what they pay for these items, and what they sell them for. The atmosphere of greed in CompUSA's board of directors is just sickening.
They don't make much money on monitors or computers. It's all the little things in the store. I remember when Windows XP was about to be released.
They held a meeting with videotaped speeches from the Board of Directors. These fatcats in Dallas were telling us all how excited we should be because we would sell shopping carts full of upgrades so that people could use XP on their old computers.
This guy's making $400,000 per year, paying me $11.00 per hour, and telling me I should be excited. That was the last straw for me. I quit a week later.

Thanks for what you do. I followed the advice of the original report and ordered it from Dell for $17.95 plus $4 s/h and $1.82 local sales tax totaling less than $24 delivered.
"Best" Buy is selling it here for $35.95 plus local sales tax.
