I should have known there was something seriously wrong after only a month of employment with ComputerTraining.edu/com when the CEO called us (the Admissions Support Staff) into a conference room practically begging us to come up with ways to "fool" (his exact words) people into not only taking the online skills challenge.  It was very odd but I dismissed my concerns, since I found out that there was a massive layoff in April and I assumed the company had to be doing great since they doubled the staff to almost about 60 employees.

Three days before the holidays, I along with about 25 other new hires were let go due to "economic reasons".  We were all blind sided since there was no talk about the company doing poorly at all.

Job Seekers Beware!!!  ComputerTraining.edu/com isn't concerned with people bettering themselves... It's all about the almighty dollar. I learned this lesson the hard way, put hope to warn others about this company. Seeing people getting hired, and 2 weeks later I'm in the same room with them getting laid off was very sad.

Potential Students Beware!!!  As soon as you take the online skills assessment, you'll be contacted for the SOLE reason of trying to get you to attended a campus visit/informational meeting...  If you show up to the campus, the person that contacted you to go over your scores or confirm you appointment gets $25, just for your walking in.  Your scores don't matter, even if you did horrible the "Assistant Director of Admissions" is trained to pump you up to think you've got the potential for the program.

If you go the informational meeting,  is solely a sales pitch, in which the "Director" who is merely an overpaid Sales Person, attempts to sell the potential student huge dreams of making big money by coughing up $18,500 for a 6 month program...   When I started, it was $13,500 and chatting with employees that had been there for years it was once $26,000!!!  There's no financial aid, so if you don't take out either a personal loan, go through Sallie Mae, or you don't have the cash up front you can't get the training.  If you don't have experience in IT and you actually do get the certification, you'll most likely start out with an entry-level help desk position making $13 an hour...

To sum this up, history repeats itself...  ComputerTraining.edu/com WILL post on the job boards for new positions in the future (although they had to close 10 out of their 25 campuses)...  Don't fall for it, like I did!  Do not apply for employment!  This is very cold hearted and nasty company, with cold hearted and nasty management!  And to those interested in furthering their education, don't apply for the school it is a ripoff and you're just another dollar from the moment you take that online skills assessment!!!

The man who is David

AUTHOR: lady - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 20, 2010

David Rau the man I personally know is a very generous man to a fault. I think he got in way over his head with his flamboyance. I also know from someone who worked for his family that he has a thing for the ladies. Maybe that's where his money went? Its really sad.

#7 UPDATE EX-employee responds

well written

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 06, 2010

I dont think the ex employees response 2 up could have been written any better.  David and Chuck did have a great impact on many peoples lives.  They played all of this out right to their monetary advantage and i hope they have to pay for what they have done.  I hope that this story does get national news attention, to make it known what these 2 have done.  I only wish those screwed over by this the best of luck, as I was lucky enough to be one of the ten original schools closing.  There are better things out there, and at least we know we have still followed our morales.

Did Rau really tell the employees that he "might lose his house" over this?   That doesn't surprise me, as management always treated us employees as stupid idiots.  And yes, I remember when Lang sent us that email telling us to "blame ourselves."  What a classless jerk he was.  I really liked how he sent it to the entire company, including administrative staff, IT, career services, and training as though any of us had anything to do with the schools admissions policies or procedures.  Ridiculous.

RE: BRAIN SURGEON'S / from a disgusted X employee

AUTHOR: DISGUSTED FORMER EMPLOYEE - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, January 02, 2010

In response to the rebuttal posted from Life Is Good, you should note for future when you reference Brain Surgeon's, it is a proper plural noun.  But, that is probably far beyond your scope of intelligence.  However, calling someone else "dumb" and doing it incorrectly isn't very impressive.  You also cannot refer to "all you" as it implies plural singular subjects.

(Suprised one of your "worthless" employees knew that?  I bet . . .)

You mention, and I assume I am speaking directly to David, that the problem wasn't with the upper management of the company, i.e. David Rau.  You state the problems were with employees who could not perform, and a lock-up of credit with Sallie Mae.
Put on record that the owner, Mr. David Rau, paid 30k plus for a private spa weekend in Florida for his "Top Sales Stars" in late October.  He placed emphasis on sales, yet disregarded the importance of the training for students.

The truth is, the program was amazing and changed many lives.  This was a direct result of serious students and the training and placement staff at each campus that took their promise to students very seriously.

The reason the company isn't in business is a result of many factors, but particularly the mismanagement of funds, and internal chaos generated by the owner, sending as many as 15-20 emails per day citing different practices, prices, and rules.  This is an owner who never performed the task, was out of touch with his audience, and who couldn't realize the fundamentals of day-to-day operational needs.  This is showcased by his wild spending and rewards to individuals who would spew his lies at no cost.

For you to blame Sallie Mae and former employees is simply ridiculous, and a true example of the ridiculousness that transpired from the "leader" of this company.  I read an article recently, actually December 11, 2009 which showcased a luxurious Florida palace which is now on the market for a pricetag of 18 million.  The employees were told that "David may lose his house over this", which is not true as they are an LLC.  However, it showcases that Mr. Rau knew at the beginning of the month what was set to transpire for all of the students and employees, and was gearing up to cover his image using the sale of his estate as a scape goat for trying to help solve the problem.  And, he is a generous man.  In fact, he was the largest donor for his children's private school which built a new facility in 2008-2009.  So obviously, he does care about education, just not that from any of the students which he knowingly stole from.

Best wishes to David and Michelle for a sun-filled weekend in Tampa, while all of the former employees scrounge to tie up loose ends since they won't be receiving their payroll checks.  And, for all of the students who rearranged schedules, quit jobs, and transitioned their lives to "dedicate" themselves to making a change for their future.  When we say that the Rau's have impacted the lives of many, we truly mean it.

And, finally, a thank you to his mouthpiece, to his mule, to his toy dummy who managed both the business and the employees equally as terrible, our President.  I hope you left Staples on good terms, though you probably won't see the 300k salary you were receiving from CTE.  Words to live by from our leader:  "Don't Blame Me, Blame Yourself".  (Sound familiar Chuck?)

Life's a Beach.  Cheers To Florida . . .

You've probably noticed that they shut down their website ..... or so they thought.

Go out to success dot computertraining dot com and have a few laughs. I especially liked the press release area. The videos are hilarious.

I'm sure the original site has already been copied by someone for posterity sake.

Go over to Careerbuilder and search on computertraining.edu. Four openings for Admissions Directors from the last month or so.

This story is starting to get national news attention. Keep posting your stories.

I really feel that criminal charges will be forthcoming against the senior officers.

Hey all you brain surgeons

The only fool you quote on your rant is you.  Take a minute Einstein and read what you wrote, and I do quote "there was a massive layoff in April and I assumed the company had to be doing great since they doubled the staff to almost about 60 employees".  What?  Massive layoff + doubled staff = you?  Perhaps you and more like you are part of the demise of this company?  You have to be kidding, right?  It's all the "people's" fault.  Big business, the big guy that paid your salary (probably lamely deserved - you are always the ones to complain).  Blaming the system again, are we?  Take a look at a notification from April of this year from Sallie Mae - yes, that fantastic company that has hurt a great many people.."Sallie Mae (ticker: SLM), which as the countrys largest student loan provider has a lot to lose from the Obama administrations proposal to eliminate the Family Federal Education Loan "Program, is floating an alternative that would save the program but cut its costs significantly."  Looks like another Obama Travesty, sorry all you Democratic zombies.  The funding dried up. Sweetheart, this is your industry, right?  Victim, I think not.  I think you are a lame, sorry worker that got caught not doing the job.  You all worked for a very smart, giving, cutting edge company.  Crawl out from the rock you live under and see the light of day that was available to you months and months and, well, you know...ago!  Good luck with your next employ.  Looking forward to your next rant.

computertraining.edu closes down in MD 12/29/2009

AUTHOR: dew - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 30, 2009

I was enrolled in the 6 month course that had started in October. I had paid cash $13,500 and was determined to get 4 certs.  Went to my Tuesday evening class on December 29th 2009 and was told the school was no longer in business and the employees had not been paid. Bank was in process of seizing all assets. I hope to get at least a 50% refund in tuition costs. One cert was earned albeit insignificant.
