Consumers Clearing House I was told that I won $500,000 as second prize in the Consumer's Clearinghouse lottery. I don't remember entering anything like that but I went along with "Dave" anyhow.

I received a phone call this morning advising me that I had won second place in a lottery contest.   I don't remember entering  this, but Dave assured me that I did.   I apparently won $500,000 and that the check would arrive in two days by courier.  All I had to do would be to show the courier my driver's license as proper identification.  Fifteen minutes later it came out that I would have to give the courier $4500 for income  tax purposes.   He gave me a claim number and a phone number for the U.S. lottery and Gaming Commission, which of course, was incorrect.  He also advised me not to tell anyone about these winnings to avoid media coverage, etc.    My sponsor for this winning was HSBC, which Dave said was the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Commission.   When I called the number given to me, I had trouble understanding the gentleman who answered.   I did understand when he asked if I was calling to report fraud or to claim my winnings.   Unfortunately, I said to report a fraud, and we were immediately disconnected.   I tried calling Dave, but the phone didn't even ring.
