at all times of the day/night. Despite repeated requests to stop calling and participating in the "do not call list".
My wife spoke with one of the callers when I wasn't around and they proceeded to "renew" a subscription "at a fantastic rate" for two more years. They knew the magazine I had a subscription to (only have one) and therefore my wife thought they were legit.
My magazine was already renewed five months prior for two years. It was not due to expire anytime soon.
All references to the charge were met with "Rocky Mountain Reader" voice mail and no answer. It was not until I did a back trace on the billing address that I came across http://www.magazineone.net. This website provided a number (800) 218-4662 which an operator answered and acted like she represented several companies (but in truth they are all the same)...
She stated she would reverse the charges (remains to be seen) but then proceeded to scold me for hinting that placing the charge to my credit card was wrong.
A further trace on the domain owner of magazineone.net is James Sierra (303) 933-9145 and possibly (303) 202-2970.
Interesting read is a posting by the Better Business Burea here:
this lists James Sierra as a supervisor for a prior company called Readers Source.
Sounds to me like these are all front companies with a bazillion different names for quick closing and reopening when trouble starts. Sound like they purchase magazine (and other) subscriber information and then procede to call to renew (regardless of the current contract). After all, do you REALLY know when your magazine subscription is over?
TV Guide put up a warning for these companies as well.
