Hello Ripoff Reporters. I have a little story to tell all of you about my experience at Cutco. About a month and half ago i was at a family party. Being bored out of my mind i decided to check their paper for the wanted ad's. Being a collage drop out , unemployed and no effort to be successful I couldn't really get most of these jobs in the paper. So I look around and happen to find this ad. Stated : no exp req. looking for collage students , blah blah , Call for an interview.

So. I therefor call the number and i got a hold of a man that was very positive. Seemed to know what he was doing. Gave him my information , he then told me they would call within 24 hours. 24 hours goes by , I received no call. I call them back this time i spoke to a girl. Same attitude as the man , she then says i could drop by that very day at a time that was about an hour or so from when i called.

I'm now excited. I get dressed in some nice clothes , take a nice clean shower. All ready to go. Took about 45 minutes to reach my destination. Now from the outside. The office buildings look great. Very professional , clean , good positive place to work. I find the office i am suppose to be in. Before entering i see the doors every where else say some random company. Cutco only owns one office. Not a big deal I guess. I Walk into the office I am welcomed by a man , ends up to be the manager. Also the man i spoke with on the phone the first time. Ended up being about say , 20 people. All places of my state. We're all crammed up in this little room without about seating for 6. After finishing writing out our information. We we're then called by two into the man's office room. Once I was called , I was paired up with a boy a find out his sister works for them or something. We get into the office room. It's about as Claustrophobic as a cardboard box. The manager asks us simple questions such as : Could I make it to the office , what is my schedule like. Things like that. After about 5 minutes he sends us into the " training room " which we then waited for everyone to finish talking to him. The interview itself was with all 20 some odd people. It was basically a game show. Sat us around and asked questions. One by one people left. After hearing the job description about being a " independent Sales Associate " a lot of people began to leave. As a teenager with no exp. Unemployed and at the state of depression we are in. I still was excited and stayed. Finally after almost 3 hours the interview was over.

He then picked out people one by one to be called into the office. After waiting a half hour. I was the second to last person to be called. I get into his cardboard box room and he tells me I seem like the kind of guy he wants on his team. He reaches out his hand and asks if i would join the team. I am then excited as all hell. I throw out my hand shake his hand and begin to thank him for the opportunity. He writes on a piece of paper of what times i have to come back for training. 3 days. The day after the interview , the day after that , and the day after that.

I come back the next day. There is about 20 people. Only 2 i seen from my 20 of the interview. So obviously i felt special to be picked out of the 20 I was with. At the same time. These people must of had some serious interviews. 3 picked out of every 20.. That's like maybe 7 groups of 20? Anyways. The training was interesting. Told us about the knives , how they are made. Stuff to get us broken in. Keep in mind this was the first time i found out what i was to be selling. The training went for about 3 hours when he then said. " go take a 15 minutes break. REMEMBER DON'T TALK ABOUT THE JOB! WE HAVE ALL THE TIME TO TALK ABOUT THE JOB TOGETHER!" Of course.. As soon as we all walk out.. We all talk about the job. I Then met some new people. Learned about their stories. Watched other people leave the job. Spoke about how this all seems fishy. We come back from our break. Say about 3 to 5 people left. Manager didn't seem to caring to it. Training finally ended.

Next day. Same people from last time. More training about selling and how to. This day , the manager tells us we have to purchase a " sample kit " which was 143.10. I'm thinking to myself.. How the hell am i going to get this kind of money. He says we don't have to buy it just yet. We could go a week without it. It will just be hard to sell knives without having them with us. Break comes. Everyone is going crazy about how they cant get the money. A lot of people leave. this time maybe half the group. Break ends. We come back about 7 to 9 people left in the room. Manager then starts to take a notice. Training Ends.

On my way home. I'm freaking out. I need this money , I need this job! I end up getting half the money from my father , and the other half from my mother. Great. That's what family is for!

Last day of training.. I enter the small office and i seem about 5 new faces. Obviously he had another group of interviews. Whatever.. As long as i have my job.. Training was the same.. Lot of talking , notes , videos. Break comes. Our Manager then says.. " When you guys come back from break. Make sure you have you're money , money order's , checks , etc. " What the hell? He said we didn't have to buy it just yet.. I stayed for my break and talked to the manager one on one about how he said we didn't need them. He then says he never said that , of course you need them how could you sell the knives without having them with you? Makes sense i guess... I asked him if i could pay with the money i get from my first pay check. Of course I cant.

Whatever.. I Have the money in the long run.

I was able to go outside for a quick short amount of time to see a lot of people left again. 8 total of people left.

We come back in everyone pays for their sample kit. Training Ends. First day of official work.

I get home do a few appointments with friends / family. I ended up selling their best set to my parent's which then makes me get promoted on my first day.

Keep in mind you get payed 18$ for every appointment if they don't buy.

Whole week i worked my a*s off to sell. Sold some pieces here and there. Did okay.

Go back for the team meeting to tell of my progress. I Am then greeted like a God. Everyone respected me for a promotion on the first day. Everything felt great.

Next week goes by.. Running out of people to show it to. So I then do the worst thing to do.. Walking up and down my street as a door to door sales men.. Now.. I live in a bad area.. Who in the right mind would want to buy some knives? I spent hours walking up and down. Working my a*s off. To get no appointments , no nothing. Remember. I got paid 0$ to do that.

Now I am getting resentful to the company. start making up lies about how I did all these appointments. Made some fake names up.. You know.. If these people are trying to F*** me over.. Might as well give them their same medicine?

Next team meeting goes by. I Get treated like s**t. No Sales? Wow you suck. I get home check my online banking account to see they made a direct deposit of 160$ and some change for my first week. Wow? 143.10 went to my parents.. I Had like what? 16 bucks and some change for myself? Whatever..

The company hires 2 of my friends. I figured that's a good idea since I get 10% of their sales..

Week goes by of lying , no sales. Treated badly. Check never came...

Another week goes by.. Still no check..

Another week i get a check for 40$? Hello?? Where is my week 2 and 3 check?

I called their company down in New york , to find out my manager never filled out my time sheets. Meaning.. My checks never going to come.. I call him back saying where's my money? After arguing for quite a bit. He then says hes going to pay me for 21 appointments making like 600$? After I threaten to call the board of unemployment to investigate this company..

He then says.. Because I got paid 21 appointments of no sales. The company doesn't even want me anymore. To continue to work for them I cant get paid for any appointments from base. Meaning I will now only get paid for the sales i make.. I Quit right there and then. No way can I get any more sales..

Week goes by i get a check for 600$. They Still owe me a little more , but oh well.. I worked my a** off for this company for a total of 657$ profit? In a month?

I guess that's better then a regular job..

To explain it all.. Cutco gives you a lot of exp. about life. If you're willing to work you're a*s off for unreliable money. Be my guest. This Job Is for you.

I Hope I help anyone trying to get a job with Cutco. Please. If you are like me. Going no where in life. I understand.. This job sounds great on paper. Trust me. It is not worth the stress. Thank you for reading. Thank you for Ripoff Report.com For letting me help anyone in my situation.

I was a Personnel Manager for Vector for over 2.5 years; I know what I am talking about.

It's a shame you didn't do well with the company, but I can't help but wonder how you expected to with the attitude you seem to have. Managers are not stupid; if you lie about your appointments, there are several ways that make this obvious. First off, it's a numbers game. If a rep simply does presentations for qualified people (you are NOT allowed to go door to door), more than half of them will buy SOMETHING. You should know that, as you had a good first few days.

If someone does 21 appointments and does not sell a single item, it is blatantly obvious the appointments were faked, and why on Earth should you get paid for them? As I said, managers are not stupid and they won't waste their time making sure someone gets paid that tried to lie to them. It's ridiculous on your part to expect that to work for you.

I find it insulting that because you were not willing to follow the training you were given, you hold the company accountable for your failure.
