First let me say that I answered an ad by phone from the newspaper classifieds for holiday customer service help. The person on the phone asked me several questions about my experience with people, having a positive attitude, and then said to come in for an interview that day at 4pm. When I arrive at the "interview" I find myself in a large room with music blaring and cheesy posters all over the walls. I am brought into a smaller room where a man fires off typical interveiw questions to me, things like my 3 best qualities, what do I want in a job, and then says that I have passed the preliminary interview and to sit down at the card table in the middle of the larger room.

He goes on to explain that the job is really selling knives, something which I was not aware of until this point.Headvises that we sit up straight, make eye contact, be as enthusiastic as possible, and that he can immediately "read us" and knows who he is going to hire already. I found this incredibly condescending and strange, especially since he let it slip that he is the exact same age as me (22). He was also saying things like, you dont want to be one of those 60 percent of college grads who dont have jobs do you? You dont want to be in your college debt for 10 years do you?

"I dont have to impress you during this interveiw but if you want this you should be trying to impress me by sitting up straight..."and continues to act like we are obviousley all desperate for a job.He explains for 2 STRAIGHT HOURS everything about the company, including that you work with teenagers doing the same job and make 18 dollars per appointment. It was kind of funny because the 2 other people in the "interview" with me were acting like this was the greatest thing they had ever heard. Say one of your appointments involves a hour of driving and one hour demonstraion, thats 9 dollars an hour, and worse if it runs over that. H*ll no.

He said that they have hundreds of applicants and the hard part was really getting hired and being qualified. (Then why all the advertising in the classifieds? an ad that is still there).Afterwards he brings me into his room and says he "doesnt think I am going to get the job," because he obviousley decided I wasnt qualified after all. Hah. I nearly laughed at this point and told him that I was not interested whatsoever and that I would never travel alone to strangers houses because its completely unsafe and that I had never known this was going to involve sales when I answered the ad.

I am sure if your passion is sales and your willing to provide your own transportation without compensation and travel to strangers houses and sell to one person at a time then cutco might be gods gift to you, as this man basically implied. But I cant believe they havent been sued for false advertising (12 dollars an hour customer service?) I believe they are preying on people who are in precarious financial situations (college students, recent graduates, single parents). Not to mention the most unprofessional and condescending interveiw that I have ever been to. If you get called for this, dont bother going unless your interested in this kind of sales. It is two of the most boring and ridiculous hours of your life that you will never get back.

It is misleading

The ads are misleading but you can take out your miles and travel out when you do taxes and it would be your own fault if you drove an hour to an appointment you get to chose whose houses you go to. and like any other sales job in the world if you sell alot you'll make alot

Depends on area of country and those already employed!

Obviously the experience has to do with the area of the country, time and those employed with Cutco.

My neice was employed by Cutco approximately 15 years ago as a high school student. She enjoyed the hiring process and the work selling this useful and durable product!
