DAKmart is a company that specializes in computer equipment. In this case I purchased a new scanner. I sent them a money order and they claimed they needed to hold it to clear just like a check because they'd received bogus money orders in the past. Now, I don't know if that's true or not, but I've never heard of anyone counterfeiting money orders ... but what do I know, maybe the old counterfeiters have taken up a new hobby now that the new money is supposedly counterfeit proof ... hehe there's a joke there!

Anyway, time passed and the scanner finally arrived. The box was in perfect condition. There wasn't a bump on it anywhere. However, both I and the post mistress noted that the box rattled like a box of loose hardware. I got the box home and opened it and true enough the scanner's center post (the post upon which the actual scanner rides) was broken off. Now, this was an e-bay purchase. That's importnat to note. I called these people and told them of the problem and they made promises that if I returned the thing they'd replace it. Well, I'd just paid $15.00 in shipping the first time, I'll be damned if I'm going to pay it for a return trip and I told them so. Then they said that if I sent them a letter they'd file it with their insurance people and once they received their payment, they'd reimburse me. Well, I filled out the form they provided and questions they asked and mailed it to them via delivery certification USPS. Five days later I received the delivery confirmation receipt from the post office noting the form had been signed for 3 days earlier.

I called DAKmart and asked them the status of my order. They hadn't filed the form yet with their insurance carrier. Now, of course, it comes to light that the insurance they're speaking of is with the USPS itself. Remember that I said the box wasn't injured at all? There had been no damage in shipping at all. There wasn't a single shred of evidence that the box had been dropped or in any way dented. There wasn't even a finger smudge on it of any kind. Simply put the scanner had been broken in the wharehouse and DAKmart had shipped a broken unit from the very beginning.

I told the DAKmart people these things. They of course claimed that it wasn't possible for them to have shipped a broken item. I asked them if they'd opened the box before they'd sent it to inspect the contents. No, they don't do that, they simply ship what they receive from their wholesaler. So, I asked them how did they KNOW what they shipped wasn't broken if they didn't inspect the contents of the box to begin with? Well, they were insulted at the obvious. They'd been caught with their pants down, the item HAD been broken in the warehosue and they'd shipped it that way. There simply was no evidence of breakage in shipping. The box had no marks on it at all, confirmed by the local post mistress who also inspected the box when I took it back to her so she could make certain that no claim from DAKmark would net them a profit for a broken piece of junk. Now, knowing DAKmart wasn't dealing straight with me, and tired of waiting for them to do the obviously honest thing and send me a new unit and pay for the old one to be returned to them, I filed a grievance with e-Bay.

Now, through the e-Bay grievance system DAKmart slights me for not filing for my own insurance on the item. Well, remember what I said about the lack of damage to the box? Well, my post mistress said that failing the test of evidence, even if I had purchased insurance on the item they wouldn't have paid because it hadn't been broken in shipping, and I had to agree with them. So, DAKmart's claims regarding my failure to purchase insurance was nothing but a smoke and mirrors attempt to deflect attention from their failures. At this point they whined that they were not going to replace my unit and that was that!

DAKmart Inc. of Hallendale, FL doesn't live up to their contractual obligations. They sell broken junk and the 300 negative feedbacks they've received on e-Bay is a testament to their failures. Why e-Bay hasn't removed them from trading there is beyond me, especially as DAKmart's failures are uniformly from the same problem ... poor service and the sale of junk.

Now, comes the kicker. E-Bay subtracts $25 from the total of a sale as their fee for handling a problem like this and they refuned to you the remaining money IF you provide proof of purchase and authentication of the damage from an approved source. The scanner cost me all of $26, so the refuned I'm due from the e-Bay system is a total of $1.00. Of course to obtain this authoritative statement regarding the damage and value of the item I will have to drive a total of 60 miles round trip to get this done. At a cost of $2.30 a gallon for gass this means that I would end up spending more than $6.00 in gas to get a refund of $1.00. Where's the sense of this? E-Bay too is just a little stupid it seems.

As of 31 July, E-Bay has refused to honor my claim, in fact they supported Dakmart because Dakmart offered to replace the item IF I paid shipping back. E-Bay has ignored Dakmart's own statement that they've rescinded that offer. Worse yet, in dealing with E-Bay's Dispute Resolution Service I sent them a copy of the MONEY ORDER with which I paid Dakmart. So, proof of my paying by Money Order has been provided. YET Dakmart in their feedback on the transaction has claimed I sent them a fraudulent check. DAKMART has deliberately LIED on this point. They've committed libel and slander in defiance of E-Bay's User Agreement to the contrary. Still, because Dakmart has completed 19300 transactions through E-Bay, E-Bay is hardly likely to side with consumers who make complaint. E-Bay is as dishonest as Dakmart is.

Anyway, the bottom line is that DAKmart of Hallendale Florida is not to be trusted and DO NOT DEAL with these people. They will screw you in the blink of an eye. They're simply not honest.
