I purchased data from this company which made numerous claims about the quality sourcing and nature of their data. All of which turned out to be completely false:

My Questions and the answers they provided:

1. Is the data verified in terms of the correct SIC codes with each company?A: yes

2. Is the data clean - i.e. only contact names in the contact field, company names in the company field, First and Last names in the correct order, correct case, spacing etc.?
A: yes

3. Is this data the result of actually phoning the companies or did you scrape it off of web pages with a program to do search engine queries looking for key words, etc.?

A: How is the Data Compiled?
5,200 Yellow Page and Business White Page Directories Federal, State, City & County Government Data Bankruptcy records and legal filings Trade Associations State Licensing Boards Leading business magazines, newspapers and company newsletters Annual reports 10Ks and other SEC filings New business registration and incorporations Postal service information including National Change of Address, ZIP+4 carrier route and Delivery Sequence Files.

4. Is your record count of 5,081,677 businesses with email the number of unique businesses/email addresses, or the number of records, where a business may have multiple SIC codes but otherwise the same data?

A: number of records

5. Do you guarantee the quality of your lists in terms of the SIC codes being correct for each business, record counts, etc. listed?

A: They referred me to their refund policy.

I asked: "So if the data is not of 'the highest quality' claimed, verified, clean etc. as represented, you guys won't stand behind it?"

To which they answered: "The product is provided as described."

Upon pressing they said:

"The Data Depot stands behind our product."

The data was garbage. First and last names were not in the correct order, companies were not properly matched to SIC codes, it was obvious from looking at the data that they ran a search engine spider that simply looked for key words and harvested whatever data they could find, which mostly was for sites and addresses that had nothing to do with the SIC code and description. For example real estate developers listed as Farms or Raches where the name of the development included one of those words, or any business with either of those words in the address. Website developers galore for all categories. Basically a dog's breakfast of total garbage.

I have all of the emails back and forth. These guys are a complete fraud.
