I took my car in for an alternator. I normally have family change parts like this because they are easy and quick to fix, due to circumstances I decided to take it to Dearborn Total Automotive for convenience.

Well, I dropped off my car at 8 a.m. Got a call from then around noon saying they have confirmed it was the alternator and I proceeded to have them fix it. They told me they were a bit busy but could get it to me by the end of the day and they would call me before the day is through. Well, I never got a call or my car.

I let this go, thinking if they were backed up they could have forgot to call me I decided to call them. They said that they couldn't finish it all and I could get it first thing the next morning. Mind you I already took off one day of work. So I said okay and called them in the morning to see if I could come get it.

Well, they weren't done, so I waited and waited and waited. I got a call about 4pm that day saying that the supplier sent them a bad alternator so my car wasn't ready. But I could get it on Saturday. I let this go, thinking, it is not their fault that the part was bad. But of course I am a bit irritated because so far it has taken two days for something that takes two hours.

They called me Saturday morning saying we are done. I went and got my car. Pulled out of their parking lot, got 5 minutes down the road and it died on me. Called them back, they towed my car back, and said they manufacturer must have send them another bad alternator. I know this can happen, not there fault right. Wrong. I can't blame them for a bad part, but the attutude they took make it immpossible for me to stay civial.

I had my boyfriend there this time. They told him a completely different story of why it went bad then they told me. Right there in front of me. Things like we drove it for an hour, they told me they drove it 10 minutes. They said they let it charge for 30 minutes, they told me 10 minutes. When I confronted him about that, he said "Time, what does it matter". A lot when I break down 5 minutes out of their lot.

On lie after another, no apolgies, no compensation, no aorry for your inconvenience. After a lot of back and forth, I told them they have had my car for three days, regardless of the bad parts, it should be done by now. Even with two bad alternators they could have gotton it done in a day. I told them I either needed a loner (which the website says they offer) and they could keep it to fix or I wanted my money back and I would tow my car home and get it fixed there by family. They told me they couldn't get me a loner, and if I wanted to get MY money vack then they would out the money for the alternator. (They nerve) I am not paying for a part that does not work.

Needless to say, after threatening to take the problem higher up their boss chain, they agreed to stay overtime and fix the car that day, (they wanted to keep it all weekend, because they closed at three and didn't work Sunday). And of course because it is not their fault I should just accept it. NO WAY.

Thet fixed it in two hours. When they told me earlier (another lie) that it took 6 or 7 hours to change. And then proceeded to make it my fault. (What poor customer service). They said these things to me, the customer, and expect me to use them agai:

1. Not our fault it took 3 days to fix my car. It is nothing they did.

2. They had to pay OUT OF POCKET for the tow to get my car back after it broke down after they fixed it. (They wanted to charge me for the tow, I refused).

3. They had to pay OUT OF POCKET for the alternator from a parts store because their supplier was closed.

4. They had to work overtime.

I suggested they take it up with their supplier.

After all was said and done three days later, two days off work, and a lot of lies and hassle because they thought they could get away with working on my car at their convenience, they had they nerve to say that that they do not want to lose my business. But I got not one sorry, only excuses. They have lost my business and they business of anyone I can talk out of going there. Not only that all mechanic friends of mine said they would also spread the word.

To make a long and aggrevating story short. DO NOT USE DEARBORN TOTAL AUTOMOTIVE on Pelham in Dearborn Heights. Worst experience I ever had with any car repair shop, including the dealer. I will from now on wait a day and get it done by my family, at least I won't get a three day run around.
