Dell mailed out a flyer/brochure which I received today, November 15, 2011.

Included in the Black Friday offerings was a Vostro 260 Mini Tower with 20" monitor for $211.00, "after instant savings of $288.00".

I both called and on lined chatted with Dell and they said it was the printer's error and that they would not do anything about it and that the correct package price was $499.00 (after discount).

Dell offered nothing but a weak apology....no coupon, no meet me half way, nothing.

I used to be a loyal customer. Now I hate Dell.

Blatant false advertising!

Legally....

AUTHOR: Jim S - (United States of America)

Dell is not obligated to offer you anything advertised, if the advertisement is a legitimate mistake they were not aware of until after the advertisement is published.  The only exception to the rule is if Dell would have printed the error itself it knew to be false, and knew better.  For example, if the ad were on their website, you might have a case.  But companies like this hire printers to put their ads together and often times....things like this happen.

Do yourself a favor, go back to Dell.  I guarantee you I've used other equipment.  Dell does a pretty good job compared to the competition....  Don't let a printer error force you to use inferior equipment.

Let me see if I have this right - The company that printed the flyer made a mistake, and so you now hate Dell.  Could you please explain to me the logic behind that ???  If you called your local newspaper and wanted to place an ad to sell your car for $5000, and the paper got it wrong and listed it for $500, would you go ahead and sell the car for $500 and take the loss ??????   Would it be right for everyone who called you about the $500 car be right for hating YOU because the newspaper got it wrong ????  What a cretin !!

Not uncommon

With the millions of prices placed on internet sites, and in store labels too by the way, there ARE going to be errors.  This does not mean the company is obligated to sell for the incorrect price.  If that were true, you might be able to get a Corvette for $8,000.00 instead of $80,000 if someone leaves off a zero.  NOT.

What if they had made the price too high, would you them be obligated to pay the higher price?

This is a silly expectation. This is a simple mistake, not false advertising.

Question.....

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 16, 2011

If you listed something for sale on Craigslist or your newspaper and the price somehow was wrong (way too low) you would sell it at the advertised price and eat the loss....right?

Most companies have disclaimers in their advertsing reserving the right to correct errors.

You WEREN'T Ripped Off...get over it.

File a complaint with the BBB, the FTC, your state's attorney general and your mother. Let us know how that works out for you.
