When deciding to purchase an engagement ring, the horrific human rights violations within the diamond industry made me unwilling to purchase mined diamond jewelry. I wanted true stones for the ring that would be on my better halves hand for the rest of our lives, leaving me unwilling to purchase CZ jewelry. Looking online, Diamond Nexus quickly appeared looking like a savior. Their rhetoric was perfect to lure me in- they promised me lab created diamonds and guaremteed me that they were not CZs, exactly the same as a diamond, but produced in a lab instead of harvested from the earth at the expense of countless lives.

I looked into the technology behind lab created diamonds and everything checked out, true diamonds can be made in a lab. I thought I had found the perfect solution. When I got the ring, the design was not what I had ordered, it was another ring that I had been considering, but the ring was beautiful and I didn't want to push back my plans to "pop the question" so I decided to keep the ring that was delivered. To be clear, that was my choice and one that I did not regret. It took a while for the Diamond Nexus lies started to unravel.

My fiancé and I took a break for several years and the ring went into a drawer. When our relationship was ready to move forward again, the ring came out of the drawer and went back on the love of my life's finger. The problems started when we took the ring in to be resized. The jeweler looked the ring over while doing the paperwork and the jeweler said the stones were CZ, we explained that they were lab created diamonds, but the jeweler was insistent that the stones were in fact CZ. We explained it away to ourselves as a jeweler that wasn't familiar with lab diamonds. Then another jeweler said the same thing when we took the ring in to be cleaned and then another when we got the ring appraised. The last jeweler explained the difference between a lab diamond and a CZ and we realized that Diamond Nexus was nothing but an elaborate con.

It had been a number of years since I purchased the ring and their website now calls their product "diamond simulants," presumably to explain why they now offer simulant and lab created stones (although who knows if anything they sell is legit). I don't care one bit about having CZ jewelry due to my beliefs about the diamond industry, but the one time it mattered to me, the one time it was vital that everything in the ring be real was the moment they swooped in and picked me off like an easy mark. I am married to the love of my life now, but am still saving every cent to get a new ring. I wanted a nice ring that was ethically created at every stage, I didn't get blood diamonds, I didn't get any kind of diamonds (before finding Diamond Nexus I has planned on a ring made with stones other than diamonds, but that would have been my choice, not because I was lied to) and I certainly did not get an ethically created ring.

Diamond Necus may not use blood diamonds, but do not confuse them for an ethical company. I am sure I am not the only person to have been conned and I hope others take it better than I do. The worst feeling of my life happens everytime I look at my wife's ring that I customized to make it as unique and beautiful as she is. When I see that ring on her hand, the symbol of the vows we made, the promises we made entering into marriage feel like they were all based on a lie.

find another company for lab diamonds, one that will deliver what they promise, just don't throw your money away with Diamond Nexus.

Diamond Nexus responds

AUTHOR: Diamond Nexus - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 07, 2014

Hi, I’m Jennifer London, the social media coordinator for Diamond Nexus.  I have worked for the company for over four years and am more than happy to not only speak with you about your concerns, but also respond to the accusations that you are making about what is being stated on our website.

We clearly state on our website and throughout our product pages that our stones are diamond simulants, unlike CZ in every way, but also not made of pure carbon. Our simulants look and feel exactly like mined diamonds, and the only difference is the chemistry. We make no attempts to sell anything other than what we are proud to have created which is the world’s leading diamond simulant stone. This statement has not changed on our website since our founding in 2004.

For your jeweler to test it and say it is a CZ is simply inaccurate. Diamond testers are thermal conductors, testing for pure carbon stones. When a stone is pure carbon it conducts heat. Our diamond simulants are not made from pure carbon so that means that they do not conduct heat. The jeweler could have easily weighed our stones to see the weight difference between our stone and a CZ. Our stones are 30% heavier because they are denser than a CZ, preventing degradation.

We post public records of scientific reports showing the findings of tests on our diamond simulant stones. These tests can be seen here: diamondnexus.com/product-education-independent-testing.html

I am pleased that it does not seem like you’ve had any issues with your purchase, you simply feel like you were lied to in the shopping process. As you noted, we do make it clear on our site that we sell a diamond simulant however. I’m sure if you didn’t see this the first time you shopped with us that you felt lied to. Having jewelers misrepresent our product must have only added to the apprehension. This is understandable but I can assure you that you did indeed purchase a quality product that thwarted the blood diamond industry.

Please email me at Jennifer.london@diamondnexus.com with your order number and the name on the account for the original ring. Then we can discuss your options. I know that as a consumer it is frustrating when thinking that you have no options with a purchase that you are unhappy with. We also understand that multiple companies are selling diamond simulants, but only Diamond Nexus has the patent pending technology of diamond simulants leading the market today.

So, maybe a diamond simulant stone isn’t for you. That is your preference on what you want to have on your wife’s finger. I just know that when it comes to love, what truly matters is the chemistry between two people and not in the stone on her finger. Though of course, she should be wearing a ring with a stone that will last a lifetime and our simulants as well as our diamonds will do just that.

We have and always will aim to educate customers on what our stones are and will always be upfront and honest in every way. I personally think that if you can give us a chance to wow you with our new lab made diamonds, you will be quite pleased!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely, Jennifer London, Social Media Coordinator, Diamond Nexus.
