Talk about a headache of a car to own, and horrible service from the dealer. We bought the car in 2003 with 14,000 miles on it. It was an OK car for about a year, aside from horrible gas mileage for its class. The it developed a hesitation problem upon starting. We had it back and forth from the Hyundai dealer (Dickson City Hyundai near Scranton, PA - beware of them and any dealership owned by the Rosado Group), and they claimed they could find no problem....yet the problem continued.

Finally, last year, it got to a point where the check engine light was coming on, and the trans put itself in fail-safe mode, locking into 2nd gear. Finally, they diagnosed the problem as a faulty sensor and connection in the trans, but since were were about THREE WEEKS past the warranty expiration (Hyundai's 10 year warranty is non-transferrable, used Hyundais get the remainder of 5 year/60,000 miles) they would not cover it. We even took the complaint to Hyundai's main offices, which fell on deaf ears, where we were told to write a letter, which I did, and received no response. They claimed that there is no proof that the current problem had anything to do with the previous hesitation problem. Well, lo and behold, the hesitation problem stopped after the fix.

Well, about a month ago, the hesitation problem resurfaced, and then the check engine light started coming on again, and the trans would shift hard intermittently. I took it to a trans shop to have a fluid/filter change (the warranty is up, so i wasn't dealing with the inept Dickson City Hyundai service department and getting ripped off), and they informed me that there was a serious problem with the trans, as evidenced by large metal shards in an around the filter. I told them not to bother trying to fix the problem, since I am not dumping $1,200-$1,500 into a car thats probably only worth $3,000-$3,500 (on a 2001 with only 46,000 miles, holy low-resale-value, Batman!). We decided to ditch it.....trading it in on a 2007 Corolla. Hope we get something in trade for it. I'll be happy just to be rid of it. In comparison, I just sold my 1996 Honda Accord, with 120,000 miles for $4,100.....more than I can get for a 2001 Elantra with almost a third of the miles on it.

I learned an expensive lesson.....DON'T BUY SOLELY BASED ON PRICE! A reliable Honda or Toyota is well worth the extra couple of grand in the long run. Hyundai has not come far from its Excel days in the 1980's. They still produce cheap garbage. There is a reason why Hyundai's have longer warranties....you'll need it...and their dealers/service departments are HORRIBLE to deal with.

Its easy to see that Dickson City Hyundai is a ((REDACTED)) operation just by the cheesy gimmicks they use to try and sell their cheap unreliable cars. Their commercials seem to use the same voice as the commericals for the monster truck jam. The guys yells about how Dickson City Hyundai offers such cheesy rip-off gimmicks as "Tires for Life" and "double the Hyundai warranty to 20 years/200,000 miles." For starters, they're not just giving tires away....to participate in the program, you have to agree to have all of your car's maintenance done at their dealer...and not just manufacturer recommended maintenance, you need to have all "dealer" recommended maintenance done, which is a total rip off, or they void the "tires for life" and "200,000 mile warranty" (as if any turdmobile Hyundai will last 200,000 miles anyway - mine was a problem at 20,000 miles).

Check the Better Business Bureau website, their reports do not lie. Dickson City Hyundai, as well as EVERY dealership owned by the Rosado Group, is rated with an UNSATISFACTORY rating. Numerous complaints which went completely unanswered by Dickson City Hyundai.

I would not recommend anyone buy a Hyundai, but if you must, please do not patronize Dickson City Hyundai or any Rosado dealership. The salesperson I dealt with at Dickson City Hyundai was as cheesy and fake of a car salesman I had ever encountered. He may as well have been wearing Elvis sunglasses, gold chains, and a powder-blue leisure suit.

An all-around low-class organization selling an inferior product.
