Direct Merchants will call every 15 minutes and harass you from 7:45am until 9:05 pm seven days a week. What planet are they from? Also keeps charging "credit protection fee" when asked to cancel it over a year and a half ago.

How convenient for them that they don't keep records of every phone call because it's always a different person you talk to. They started calling my work place and harassing my co-workers and giving them the third degree! This will NOT HAPPEN! I won't lose my job over a bill that could have been paid off a year ago if they didn't tack on their excessive "extras" every month!

They are now leaving "nasties" on my answering machine and not identifying themselves by name, but you get to learn their voices over time! I have refused to speak with them any more, they are nasty, rotten people that don't care about anyone but trying to make our lives miserable.

There has to be protection for us out there, we are victims!

Finding Help When Being Harrassed/Ripped Off

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 26, 2003

Doug is right, read and know the Fair Debt Collection Law and in addition, the Federal Trade Commission is online where there is a complaint form and most states have a Department that governs credit cards, banking, collection agencies, etc., and you can complain to them. They will ask you to send all pertinent information to prove your case, at least
in the situtations I have encountered they have, but they will also help you if they believe your case is legitimate.

These laws and agencies are there for your protection as a consumer, don't be afraid to use them. Fraud and harrassing collection practices seem to be the norm these days, don't let them get away with it.
