In late August of 2009 I received a mail flyer advertising a "special deal" if I would switch to Directv.  It promised 150 channels (I believe), numerous HD channels and three months of free Starz for only $29.95 a month for the first year.  It was installed on 9/5/09.

It turned out that the installation was missing the DVR I'd been promised on the phone when I placed the order, so they sent someone out to replace the HD box "at no extra charge".

The initial bill arrived late that month in the amount of $486!  I called and talked to billing and they got it cleared up,...they said.  They also informed me that there would be an extra charge for the HD DVR and additional receivers that would bring my monthly bill to $44.99.  OK.

The next bill I received was in the amount of $526!  Once again I called them and was told they were sorry and would correct the mistake (but only after I was on the phone for over an hour and had to work my way up the ladder to management).  Back to the $44.99 per month.  They also promised to activate the three month trial of Starz, which had not begun.

November came and along with it a bill for $91.52 for one month's service.  More calls, more promises and they finally activated the Starz channels.  I asked about canceling and was told it would cost me $250.

Late December arrived along with yet another bill for $91.52!  WHERE, OH WHERE WAS MY PROMISED MONTHLY BILL OF $44.95?

I feel they have broken the contract I made with them.  Six phone calls failed to resolve the problem.  I'll make call number seven tomorrow, just for the heck of it, but don't expect any real help from them.  If I have to pay the disconnect fee it will be worth it just to be rid of them.

Dish will be here in four days to bring back a system that works nearly ALL of the time, unlike Directv, and doesn't try to jerk me around when it comes to billing.  I should never have switched to try to save a buck!
