I have been a faithful Directv customer since 1998, and always paid my bill. After recently deciding that it was just not worth paying so much each month for satellite/cable service, I opted to ditch my Directv service account. We added a Roku to our home last fall, and I'd noticed that my family was using the Roku more than the Directv account ($9.99 Netflix+$7.99 Hulu vs $72-96/month for basic Directv service for two televisions).

I'd called in January, 2013 to notify Directv that we wanted to cancel our account, requested the total account payoff over the phone and paid it. A few weeks later (February, 2013), I received a refund check from Directv for $18. I'd guessed that I'd overpaid my account at the time that I called in to cancel, so I thought nothing of it. Late March, 2013, I received a bill from Direct for $5.99 for a pay per view movie from 2010?

Ok, I've not had a ground telephone line since early 2010 in order to save $$$. The Directv bill was for a movie purchased in May, 2010, and did not make any sense to me whatsoever due to the missing phone line connection. I knew that we used a one-time promo (rebate coupon thingy) from Directv in 2010 when we replaced our receiver with an HD receiver, and we had a Directv tech come out to our home to replace it.I thought that it was just a billing mix up of some kind over  $5.99, and due to being slammed at work, didn't get a chance to call/email right away to get it sorted it out. 2 1/2 weeks later, I got another bill from Directv, this time stating that my "small balance" had been written off? I was floored!

Terrified of being sent to collections, I finally got the chance to call in and ask about the charges, only to be told that I was being billed for a pay per view that was located on the received that I'd returned (again proof that I was trying my best to be a GOOD customer, following their directions!). According to my telephone call to customer service, I was not billed for the movie at the time I received it in 05/2010. I protested that this was not possible, since I could not have ordered it without a ground telephone line (I'd called in the order over the phone to redeem my rebate/coupon because I couldn't do it online,I do recall that). I'd asked if I could please have a billing/payment history from 01/01/10 until now forwarded to me (05/12/13) and was told no, that I would have to request it in writing. This company's CRAZY!

Ok, firstly, I have always faithfully paid, returned your receivers, even overpaid in order to finalize things, and then get the super duper runaround when I get a funky charge that doesn't make sense? I submitted an online email via their website (you cannot email Directv directly, period, check out their website, no email addresses are ever listed or made available for any departments, you have to hunt through a bunch of convoluted prompts to see if your issue has already been answered). Of course, unlike all of the times I have regularly used Directv, after submitting my email to customer service, I did NOT get a confirmation that they received my email message, that someone would respond or anything other than a confirmation number proving that the message had been sent. I'm definitely keeping that! Good thing that I used a bill pay service online so that I can go through them to get every single billing invoice for my Directv account from 2010 going forward, and get this crap wiped out! I do not expect Directv to acknowledge anything being wrong on their part, or that a promo code/rebate was used, since this seems to be a final "gotcha" with this company to con exiting customers out of one last dime. Super glad that we didn't EVER order more movies through them or use more of the stupid coupons we'd received over the years!

This is ridiculous! I don't want my ridiculously nominal balance to be sent off to collections, I am disputing it (until I can see a printed out pay history, showing all charges and payments/credits applied). I have to send written correspondence, which will almost certainly be ignored (that's my impression thus far!), and hope and pray that someone will acknowledge this and make things right. Why would anyone want to use a "promo" or "rebate" if you are just going to be billed for it years later?

In the day and age where people are looking for value, and Directv has a HORRIBLE tendency to stick it to the customers that have been with them the longest by steadily increasing their rates each month (I don't think that I ever got a bill from them two months in a row that was the same amount, despite receiving the same type of service package through them and this is not a utilitiy bill, so why would it fluctuate so much?). I would have to call and tell Directv that I could not afford my bill jumping from one month of $72/month to $96/month due to "fee increases". Whenever I'd called to complain, they would always not only drop my billed amount down, but usually to $51 or $53/month FOR THE EXACT SAME SERVICE!

It always made me wonder, what is the real price here? Directv, you're terrible!!!! For $5.99, I am pissed and disgusted. I hope that your company wakes up before you end going the way of Circuit City, Blockbuster and other companies that just could not seem to keep up and change with the times. You are not providing customers with any "value" or "savings" by attempting to constantly bilk people and then on top of everything, give customers the runaround! I'm now a super duper Internet-tv & Redbox ONLY fan!!
