In October of 2009 I saw an ad on Fox News for a company that said they could get interest rates lowered as a part of President Obama's plan to assist homeowners.  The ad gave a toll free number and I called.  I was told that the money for these mortgage modifications was running out very fast and I needed to get a case number to get any assistance.  I asked questions and they had a plausable answer for all of them and took a credit profile from me listing my current bills not just mortgage payments and gave me a projected interest rate of 3.25 percent if I would let them take my case and work out the negotiations with my mortgage holder.  They needed a one time payment of $1395.00 for all fees and closing costs on the modified loan.  I talked to my wife and we couldn't get all the money at one time so they set up three payments.  I assumed that everything would go from there and I received a contract to sign and a lot of paperwork to fill out and verification of income forms which seemed logical for this type of transaction.  After getting all the paperwork done and talking to three or for different individuals that handled my case at times I felt I should get a progress report.  This was in December.  I learned they had done nothing. They Had not even contacted the bank where my mortgage was held.  I immediately called the current worker and cancelled.  I was told I couldn't do that because I had defaulted. I requested  to get a refund, which the contract allows but they just keep sending requests for further proofs of income.  I have a proof of delivery of the cancellation letter and my contract but I don't know where to go next.
