Discover Financial Services Refused to refund unauthorized charges Salt Lake City Utah

I have been being charged every month for a payment protection service for my credit card that I NEVER authorized (which the company dishonestly denies). This has been going on since September 2005.

Since I signed up for my Discover credit card in 2005, I have been charged various amounts, ranging from approximately $2.00 to $10.00, every month for a Payment Protection service that I never authorized. Every month since 2005 this amount was being withdrawn without my consent, much less my knowledge. Although it can be argued that I should have noticed these charges earlier, it still does not give Discover the right to consistently withdrawal money out of my account without me giving them the authority to do so.

When I contacted the number listed with the payments on my statement (1-877-883-1959 belonging to Epixtar Marketing, Inc.) I requested to cancel the service and demanded a full refund. After canceling the service, the associate told me that in order to receive a full refund, an investigation had to take place and that would take about 6-8 weeks. After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Ivy Spence (from the Executive Office of Customer Advocacy) informed me that I did in fact sign up for it and that they would give me a partial refund of approximately $26, which I am unsatisfied with.

Spence claims to have proof, which was not provided in the rebuttal, but I highly doubt that since I am very confident that I NEVER gave my consent. To obtain more evidence of Discover claiming to have proof of authorization, one would simply have to type "Discover Card Payment Protection scam" into a search engine and various incidences similar to mines will prove my discrepancy with them. It is my belief that the company is aware of their deceitfulness since I was willingly given a partial refund, which would not have been done had they been justified in their charges.

If that isn't sufficient proof of this company's fraudulence, then the hundreds of similar complaints that they have received through this consumer website and BBB should prove that the services offered by Discover through Epixtar Marketing are based on fraud and should immediately be dismantled. Their corrupt and unauthorized acts have affected many individuals and it is my strong belief that Epixtar should be investigated and dissolved before more people are duped. I want back every penny that they ever stole from me and I will not stop fighting them until that happens.

I am a full-time student at the University of Florida working two jobs to support myself and I refuse to be a victim of their egregious fraud. On Monday morning I will be contacting my state attorney general, Bill McCollum, who is known for his staunch opposition and eagerness to help people against frauds like this. Hopefully, all of my efforts will serve as a lesson for Discover Financial Services and lead them to offer their customers honest services.
