These guys are convenient - right down the road. Had a nail in my tire and wanted it fixed fast. Dropped it off during my lunch hour so that I could pick it up after work.

They even loaded it into my trunk for me. I paid my $20 and went home. I immediately went to install it upon arriving home. When taking it out of my trunk, it did not bounce when dropping it onto the concrete floor. I called Dobbs to ask if it was their proceedure to fill a tire after fixing it.

The suggested I bring it back. They were open until 8pm.
After waiting in the lobby for a couple minutes, one of the fellas brought my tire to me. He showed me that it was leaking at the bead and that it was unrepairable.
I asked if that could be caused by by their mounting/dismounting the tire.

"No. We see this kind of damage all the time." Came the response. They refused to acknowledge that they had ruined my tire.

So not only am I out a relatively good tire, but I had to pay them $20 for the privelege of ruining it.

1st, to reply to the above comments:

Yes I damaged the tire in the tread area by driving over a nail in my garage. This was my bad - I was pulling nails the weekend prior and had missed picking one up. I drove maybe 60 feet before pulling back into the garage, because I immediately recognized something was wrong.

Dobbs did fix the nail hole (which was in the tread area). The plugged and patched it.

My problem was not with the work I paid them to do, it was with the apparent damage that they did to my tire in the process. The "new" leak was in the bead area.

**********
2nd, now to more updated info:
I went online and purchased a pair of tires from TireRack.com. I bought a pair so that their would be a matched set on one axle, even though I really only had one bad tire. The day after receiving the tires, I took them to local independent tire dealer (Childs Tire, O'Fallon Missouri).

I asked John Childs (the owner) to pay particular attention to the one tire, and told him the whole Dobbs story.

He replied that maybe they had not cleaned the bead area of the tire and/or the rim, and thus the leak was just caused by a bad seal, not a bad tire.

Sure enough, when I went to pick up the newly mounted tires, he confirmed that the rim was dirty and that the tire was perfectly good.

Long story short, I can't blame Dobbs for ruining my tire (since they didn't). But I can blame them for trying to sell me a new tire by telling me that a perfectly good tire was defective.

I maintain that they are still not worthy of EVER receiving my business. And I will still tell everyone that I know of my experience with them, and that I am unhappy with their service.

Damage may have already taken place.

Please tell me if I am wrong. With you telling us that you that you took the tire in, implies that it was flat. If you were driving when it went flat, damage could have been caused to the wheels rim. Depending on the material the wheel is made of would make a difference on how quickly damage would happen when driving on a flat. Aluminum wheels are damaged very quickly. Most newer machines that break down the tires, do it without damage to the wheels. It is possible that they did the damage but doubtful. If you drive even a very short distance on a flat, it could damage the tire also. All they did was try to fix it. You might need to replace the wheel. If both needed to be replaced, that would only be from pre-existing damage.

Huh?!

How did they ruin your tire. The tire was already damaged; remember you took it to them for repair.

They owe you nothing. I doubt they even patched the tire at all. They probably plugged it. Nobody patches a tire for $20. The labor involved is worth more than that.
