My name is William. I am in the Army National Guard. In June 2002 my wife and I seperated and she took the car, so I went shopping. I thought I was safe by going to a major dealer in Atlanta to buy a New vehicle wanting to avoid a used car lot scam.

I bought a new 02 Ford, and all was well, until a few months later my unit recieved orders for "Operation Enduring Freedom". Immediately the Army legal personal issued letters for all of our creditors letting them know of the situation, and the Federal law F.M.-100 formerly u.s.-code 50 the soldiers civil relief act. set up to protect a deployed soldier who can not be reached by phone or readily get to a mail box.

Any way, the first two mo. of the deployment the Army still hadn't gotten our pay squared away, and I was late on every thing. All of my other creditors were very understanding.

All except Drive they actually responded by telling me they didn't believe I was preparing to go to War and that I needed to make payment. They called several of my friends my mother, my sister and my estranged wife.

The Army JAG Corps. called several times sent many letters. My Commander sent a letter explaining the law and the pay problem, but they did not care.

3 weeks later while in Afganistan my Mother sent me a letter, saying the car was gone.

WAY TO SUPPORT YOUR TROOPS !!!

Now they still send me letters every couple weeks telling me I owe them 8770.00 because when they auctioned the 5 mo. old car w/700 miles they could only get 1000.00 MY A**!!!

I bought the car for 12000.00 w/a 1500.00 rebate and 2000.00 cash down, made 6 bi-weekly payments and that didn't even cover the bogus finance charges.

TO DRIVE, GET OVER IT AND PULL IT OFF MY CREDIT REPORT!!
I GOT SHOT AT FOR 16 MO. AND LOST SOME GOOD FRIENDS.
I'LL BE DAMNED IF I PAY YOU 1$

It's my pleasure to protect all our Freedoms. Just not the Freedom to screw people.

Don't Give UP!

First of all, let me say thank you for serving our country. Second, do not quit fighting. If you have or can get copies of all of the paperwork, including letters from JAG, records of phone conversations, etc., send them all to your Congressmen/women, the three major credit bureaus, the FTC and anyone else you can think of. For them to repo the car may not have been so overboard (although I don't agree with it), but to try to get the money out of you for the "difference" is a whole new ball game. I'm certain you are not the only consumer who has been treated like this by Drive Financial and I'm betting you aren't the only armed service member who has had this problem. The more of you that band together and notify those in authority, the better chance you have of winning the battle. I would also suggest cc'ing everything to the White House. Good Luck!
