It seems as of April of 2015 DSL Extreme is still using tactics as depicted by unhappy customers in the past. It seems as long as you are a cash source everything is fine. Else if you decide to not renew your contract they show their evil side.

Normally I don't denounce companies because once the confusion is remedied we get to an agreement. DSL Extreme seems to thrive on confusion and uses it as a tool for a money grab.

Fortunately I made copies of all statements DSL Extreme had available on-line since they since have changed statements and then  blocked access to them.

My initial statement has no mention of modem lease or rental. It also has the words, "since all of our modems are FREE at DSL Extreme...".

They continually keep calling to get me to "return it since it was leased". So the advice of counsel says, if I do return it, that could be used as acknowledgment of agreement to their claim that it was not FREE.

My first statement lists DSL modem $30.00 and Rebate -$30.00.

So how can this be even listed as line items if it is not an instant rebate to a purchase resulting in a $0.00 concerning the modem?

Somewhere about 9 months into this relationship my first statement is not online any longer. A month later there lies a condensed version completely different from the original.

Secondly, they are aware when the contract expires. Their wording states they require 30 days before termination of service. I didn't terminate service. I informed them I was not renewing the contract. I'm sure if I were terminating service I would have been charged their standard monthly rate for 11 months.

And lastly, they changed the amount presumably due at least 3 times before finally coming to a $9 and something amount.

They wanted to charge me a pro-rated amount for the entire month, however they couldn't have provided me with service if they wanted to since ATT took over the line on the 10th while the ending date of DSL Extreme's contract was the 13th.

Their phone people stopped short of saying, "You are a liar". None the less they were stating that they did not give anything away despite my copy of their payment statement. When I read it word for word to them, they basically ignored it and reiterated their previous programming.

Will update when they refuse to put in writing a finalization document terminating any further activities on this issue.

Just when you think all is well

Unbelievable.

Keep in mind that no where in any statement or invoice is the word "lease" or any like word such as rent nor was it mentioned until lately.In my conversation with the DSL-Extreme employee I asked if my existing modem was OK and he said, "no there are a few..." and then he says its free. Since they stated the call was recorded, THEY HAVE THAT INFORMATION !!!

In June I received an email to a request of final charges.

Just as is follows:

Please be advised your final invoice is for $9.33, you can call in to make a payment by calling into our business office M-F 8:30am-5pm pst at 1-800-774-3379.

On 7/10/2015 DSL Extreme generates a bill for a modem for $109.14

As follows:

So if DSL-Extreme has had 10,000 customers and they collected tax for last year, according to this
doesn't this sound like they have ripped off the state of California for either $27,700 or $92,240 ?

It just looks hokey to me...

One thing DSL-Extreme has proven.

They are liars and one hand knows not the other or they are liars about that as well.

It seems that DSL Extreme has most likely reviewed my recorded conversation and documentation concerning my account and upon my last contact with DSL Extreme they responded with my account due is $9.33.

Wow! I am amazed at ripoff report's power to convey shady tactics to the masses.

No more harassment about the modem nor have they tried to hit me with a years worth of modem lease charges.

According to their policy, contested charges within the 60 day period, I voluntary included the $1.00 per month to their final amount and have sent them their $9.33 + $1 per month even though it was not requested.

Hopefully this severs any remaining ties to DSL-Extreme.

If you choose to use them, read their terms of service very carefully.

The most distressful clause I found was they claim the right to change anything in the agreement regardless of any previous agreement or any agreement thereafter.  Last I heard, that was illegal.

Give a mouse a cookie and he will want a glass of milk.
