I'll keep this short.
I attended ECPI for 3 months in the IT/NETSEC degree plan. I was active duty Army at the time and attended school at night. I was told by the tuition department that the cost of tuition would be civered by a combination of Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized), the Montgomery GI Bill, and the Army Tuition Assistance Program.
I received notification in the third month of school that DA had place me on assigment to Korea. I explained the situation to ECPI and they said withdrawal was my only option, as finishing the degree outside the classroom was impossible. I withdrew from the course on the 5th day of the semester. On my way out, I asked the tuition department if I still owed the school any money. They said "NO."
Over a year later, a collection agency is hounding me claiming that I owe ECPI over 5000 dollars. I contacted ECPI to clarify the situation and was told that even though I did not finish the degree, I am still expected to pay for it. Their justification has something to do with the "Federal Pro-rata Refund Program," which is something they claim is in the contract and "not in fine print." I neither read anything of this sort in the contract, nor was I briefed on the subject upon enrollment.
This after being told I had no further obligation to the school. This after being placed on military assignment and forced to withdraw due to a lack of infrastructure supporting off-site education within ECPI. This after dealing with inept "professors" who merely sat in the front of the room reading fantasy novels while my classmates and I ran through the Cisco online academy courseware and paying roughly 1000 dollars a month to do so.
This school is dishonest in its advertising, dishonest in the classroom, and dishonest in its financial dealings with students. Steer clear of these people at all costs. They are not a school at all. They are a FRANCHISE. Just like McDonald's. Stay clear.
As for me, I will see these thieves in court.

Nothing Wrong With ECPI

I attended ECPI and finished the IT/NETSEC program. Great bunch of people to work with. The person claiming that this is a franchise is ill informed. They ARE DUAL ACCREDITED. The classes are 5 weeks long for a reason. They are fast paced and they expect you to study. They will not hand you a free degree. I cannot stand when someone does not want to pay their bill or just sign documents and not read what they are signing. If the person who filed this complaint actually had any intelligence at all they would see that they were in the wrong. They did not read the fine print. Everything you need to know is put out there for you. ECPI WILL work with military, thats a promise. ECPI is a great school if you have a full time job/kids, or just really busy.

I fell prey to the collections agency that ECPI deals with, after a lapse in attendence. I went back and finished my degree.
During the time I was completing my degree program, I continually checked the status of my ledger card. At times, the balance of my account showed I sometimes owed $5000.00, $7000.00, $10,000.00 or $30000.00.
Only after seeking the help of a customer who works in a law firm, and threatening legal action, did the school work out the proper amount that I owed. As I've stated, I finished the program and my balance from that program is $0.00.
I'm returning to ECPI for another degree program. I have carefully documented everything that I've been told and all paperwork that I've been given. We'll see how it goes this time around.
One MAJOR problem that I have observed is the manner in which student accounts are handled by more than one financial aid advisor. On several occasions I've been questioned as to whether or not I will have enough money to cover the cost of this second program I am taking up. This is after all financial expenses have been worked out, on paper, to include the Army College Fund, Military scholarship programs, and Federal Student Aid.
ECPI students should only have to deal with a single financial aid advisor. This would cut down on the confusion and paperwork that arises from miscommunication within the administration.
I, personally will always hold to this truth: The administration (save for a very few) at ECPI is lacking in management skills. and on occasion professionalism. I've been cursed at, ignored, and made to feel that I was a trivial part of the process.
ECPI is a franchise, I will agree, and unless you speak your mind, and have sufficient legal resources to draw from, you could get swept up in financial woes. On the other hand the teaching staff is outstanding and the classes I've taken have helped me a great deal.
My easy answer was to have a ledger card printed for me, each time I made a payment. As I saw my balance fluctuate from ledger card to ledger card, I sent up flags immediately. Eventually I asked to have a ledger card printed for me each Monday of each week I attended. This helped me monitor any discrepancies that arose. I plan on doing the same as I begin my new degree program at ECPI.
