first went to Mazatlan in 1982, returning each year through 1998--bought first timeshare in 1987, trading it plus $6,000 for timeshare at El Cid Marina in 1997--have used 3 weeks since, but not in past 6 years--have paid over $3,000 in maintenance fees, even though we haven't used the timeshare--
I'm almost 80 years old, have physical problems, and will never use the timeshare again--have tried for over 3 years to get El Cid to simply cancel the remaining years, all to no avail--have turned to the courts in Mexico--they in turn contacted El Cid, and supposedly someone is due to get in touch with us, but if past attempts are any indication, we'll never hear from them, because they want to continue to get the $400 plus maintenance fee, which is a big ripoff--we just want out

I've spent a lot of money and i was scammed by other companies trying to cancel my timeshare.
My advice is that if you're going to hire a company to help you with the problem, DO NOT PAY ANYTHING UPFRONT, because it use to be a fraud.
I did a research on internet and i found some interesting articles, i recommend you to read this one:

I would just walk away. Then they foreclose. Thats it.
Mexican courts cannot compel you to do anything, as they have no authority anywhere in the USA.
Is any US Based company involved in the financing or the contractual obligations?
Was the agreement signed in the US or in Mexico?
