The public record clearly shows that the Circle S Ranch's license was revoked by the State of Arizona. NBC produced a Documentary which can be seen on Facebook. Survivors of the Circle Ranch. After years of research, NBC Broadcasted the  Documentary, which includes on camera interviews with some of the victims. 

The poor guy who said the Steins saved many lives and closed their Circle S Ranch voluntarily is a pathalogical liar.

Clearly, this person, maybe a woman, is confused, brainwashed or Both. The NBC Documentary clearly states that the State of Arizona revoked Leo Stein's license and shut his place down. Yes, he retired, but it was a forced retirement. Mr. Stein also settled a lawsuit brought against him for nearly $10,000,000.00 dollars.

I wonder where this person was during the lawsuit as there were NO witnesses who stood up for the Steins.

The NBC Documentary speaks for itself. Mr. Stein refused to be interviwed. Surely, had Mr. Stein had documentation proving that he "saved" or "cured" kids, he would have proudly made these facts known.

Leo Stein NEVER had a degree in psychology. He was an athiest and a Communist. His FBI files reflect these facts.

There have been many posts on this site which question the truth. This NBC Documentary was fully researched by NBC. Clearly, ALL of what they say here is true based on irrefutable facts in the record.

Please read the article posted below, which confirms that Leo Stein had his license to care for young Boys revoked by the State of Arizona. The Stein's did NOT  appeal the decision because they were afraid of more damaging and incriminating information coming forth from further hearings.

The Lawyer who represented the Stein's and Circle S Ranch admitted that his clients had LOST all their credibility.

I was there from early 1973 to july 1978,during that time i was the victim of abuse, but the abuses came from the boys and not leo or carl or ella. yes i think i was slaped but cant think of once that i felt abused. up untill spring of 1978 i took care of the grounds and maintenance and other building projects maintained wells gardening and read most of my free time.i was always up befor 5 and went to bed at 11 or later, and in the summer would often have to switch water at 1 or 2 am. im shure i have seen most of every thing that happened.

one time in the dinning room ella came in and slaped one boy silly, i was shocked turned out the boy had tried nto rape caroloyn. she had been angry with me a few times over the years that was the only thime i have seen ella hit anyone. yelling on the other hand was normaly unaceptable except in group, and in group yelling hitting pillows(duffle bags stufed withy cotton) was required. .

the only adults whome didnt have very good restraint when it came to dealing with  the crule boys was dale and less.

once when reading dale came in and slaped a boy repeatedly, i didnt know why. another time during group while a boy was having an encounter with dale ( dale was a patient then went to shool and came back a counseler) and dale kicked him in the face . needlesss to say i wached him close, and in all the 4 years i knew him he did nothing sexual or unusualy manipulative or degenerate, one time weasel one of the boys whome most days at lunch you couild catch him reach into the back of his pants and spread a hand full of gooyey weasel poop on his sandwich and eat it dale and carl always dealt with these types of things hounerabley and usualy whith kindness.

Less just was more unbalanced and had a lot to prove he got angry often but never saw him lose controll and beat anyone. deep passion, and laughed funny. carl whome everyone called dingo the live in counceler

BY LEO AND ELLA REALLY? . i supose i can see how a mentally ill child could imagine that they took place, Leo subscribed to frueds bull SH*t subconius incest  and sex garbage, but its no worse than the rest of the religions out their.no less 75% of the boys wanted to have ella there was always a few that said they were doing her and carrolyn

i both hated and loved being there and strugled to stay away from group 364 days a friggin year of listening to evryone issues could be enough to send you to the funny farm,

Leo once told me the story of why he opened the ranch and chose salome, why was simple he grew uparound some mentaly ill and i think had a realitive in a mental hospital he desired to heal the youth and keep them from eternaly living in nut houses.he used every tool in the psyclogical box and many out, dream interpitation mostly freud symbolism,transedental meditation,gastalt,encounter groups, just soo many. some of the methodes were crude and twisted but was what was being taught in universites as fact. we now know that frued was a coked up pervert we learn.

 the only frank i can remember was not too bright but kind, stable worked hard, left for the army but came back because he didnt do well with army stuff shooting attacking etc.i shure miss him

SKip Honsik was a good kid. He was well liked at Salome High School, especially, by the football Coach Rhae Wease. Skip was a docile, effeminate boy, who was quiet and submissive. Skip did what Leo and Ella Stein told him to do, so he never took any beatings.  We researched the Court records, and by Leo, Ella and Les Stein's own testimony they slapped and punched most of the boys. However, they said they did it "for their own good".

It is too bad Skip is, to this day, brainwashed about the Stein's. 

The man who said Stein's Ranch was a good place is a guy named Frank "Skip" Honsik.  Honsik's  Dad was a Doctor, and sent him out to The Ranch as a private placement, to get the kid out of his way.  Honsik was not a crazy kid, nor was he from a poor family.

Honsik was a kid of privelege, and was a really nice kid, who was brainwashed by the Steins.  Honsik was in Salome, Arizona in 1965!

His Dad Dr. Honsik was paying the Stein's $700.00 per month for his "therapy" $700.00 in 1965 is $10,000.00 a month  in today's money!

Dr. Honsik told the Stein's they were not to beat up the kid or he would pull him off, and take his $700.00 a month payment away.

Honsik was Stein's "pet", and did whatever he was told, and attending Salome High School, where he was the Manager of the Football team!

While a Ranch "resident", Honsik witnessed the beatings Steins gave the other kids, but Honsik has chosen to protect the Stein family, and refused to testify at the Stein's trial for child abuse, where they were found GUILTY and shut down by the State of Arizona.

I was on Circle S Ranch in 1978. The Steins were great people for what they tried to do by saving kids who were lost. I was one of them. But I ran about 60 miles to get away from that place because Leo and Ella were both crazy. The ranch was a great place except for the sort of Jim Jones like s**t Leo and Ella used to do to the kids. Maybe we know each other. Leo and Ella were both genius's in their own way but they were out of control at times. It was like psychological torture.

This is a very sad case of someone de-faming one of the greatest people I've ever met.  Leo Stein saved my life!  And many other screwed up kids back in the 60's and 70's. He ran a ranch that took in boys that were abandoned or taken away from their parents and had spent time in mental hospitals and other "care" homes.  This was the place you went  if no one else would take you. Many of these kids were diagnosed schizophrenic, and had been shuffled around by social workers most of their lives.  Several could barely read, or had much education.

We worked in the vegetable gardens, swam in the pool, played ball games, and went to group sessions every day.  At the ranch, they didn't take your crazy crap!  This was not some sort of institution where ten men would run and hold down the wild kid.  -They made you take responsibility for your actions. 

All of us went out there as screwed up teenage boys who never took advice or went along with any program.  Leo and Ella saved many of these boys who were willing to take a chance and see that there was something more to life than anger.
After 30 plus years running the ranch, and hundreds of boys living there, 2 boys made up false accusations and told their social workers lies to leave the ranch, and then later attempted to extort money from the Steins through their insurance.
So the Steins retired, it was a hard 24 hour 7 day week job, with little or no thanks from the people they helped.
