I had purchased a warranty through Elite Warranty. I since then bought a new car and they are unwilling to transfer or refund my warranty. They tell m My name is Matthew Snyder. I have recently done some business with Elite Warranty Inc. I purchased a Jeep cherokee on June 30th 2009 from a small dealership. I also purchased an extended warranty on this vehicle to cover me for an additional 60 months/ 100k miles for the amount of $795.00 through Elite Warranty. I have since then traded our vehicle in due to my wife expecting another baby and our family needing a larger car to accommodate the addition when he/she comes. I contacted Elite Warranty to either transfer the warranty with the vehicle to the new buyer, transfer the warranty to my new vehicle (less the time i had the jeep), or to get a refund for the amount that i spent on the warranty. The first individual that i spoke to was Colen Sweeten. He took my warranty info and then told me that there was nothing i could do. I asked for his manager and he told me that the owners name was Sid Bastian and to contact him at 801-420-4777. I then contacted Sid to reach a resolution. I told him the situation and that i would just like to either have the remaining time on my warranty transfer to my new vehicle or to get even a partial refund of the $795. At no time during my ownership of the Jeep, did i have to use their warranty. He said that the most he could do is offer me a small discount if i wanted to purchase another warranty through their company for my new vehicle. I refused this option. I told him i couldn't and wouldn't spend any more money with them. I feel it is very unfair and unethical for a company to take this money even though i have not used their warranty at all and leave me with nothing. Elite Warranty is out no money for my contract with them yet now i am out $795 and have nothing for it. I feel that i should either be able to apply the money i paid for their service toward my new vehicle or get a refund since they haven't done anything and are out no money. I am very unhappy with their company and would like to know what my options are in getting this resolved. I am a hard working father and husband and a full time student. I am very honest when i deal with others i just don't know why others cannot be as well. I understand business and contracts but the bottom line is that I am not asking a whole lot, I am simply asking that the right thing be done to rectify this situation. Matt

so you say you help thousands of people everyday....show some stats...here's some we'd like to see... total number of claims vs. total number of denial of claims...and price per claim?...how much are you paying out on those claims...and how on earth you have an a+ rating with BBB.... and why not answer questions about salespeople of your so-called warranty and oral sales techniques and things they say to buy your "warranty" and later find out he lied... put some facts up there to back up your case Elite....

Take Responsibility

Where we can appreciate your personal and financial challenges, it is not our fault that you decided to make a change with your vehicle. Sounds like there is nothing wrong with the warranty at all you just want to transfer it to a new vehicle. We have never had that option available especially on a simple power train warranty. But being the upstanding man that Sid is he still offered you a discount which he didn't have to do to help you and your situation.

But yet we are being blamed for a personal decision that you made for yourself. We can hardly be accountable for your decisions or choices. We have been in business for 16 years and have an "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau. We help thousands of customers daily with their vehicles to get them fixed. this is nothing but a very simple case of not taking responsibility for your choice to change vehicles..... this is not our fault in any way. We wish you the best in your endeavors.

What does your contract say?

"I understand business and contracts but the bottom line is that I am not asking a whole lot,"

If it says the warranty is not transferrable, you should not expect the company to transfer it.   If you understand business and contracts, that should be clear.

That said, most of these third party warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on.    If you ever do make a claim, they'll show you plenty of fine print that describes why they don't have to pay.   In reality, you were out the money when you initially bought the warranty.  Search this site's "Auto Warranties" section for hundreds of examples.
