I worked for Encore doing one Nike event in Honolulu. I was a college student and it was my last semester, and so I had to have my paycheck sent to my parents' address in my hometown in Pennsylvania. I did put my current (at the time) Honolulu mailing address into my profile when I first signed up. However, when I sent my W9 forms I requested that my paycheck be sent to the mailing address I specified in my W9 forms.

So after I got back home after graduating, I sent an email to Encore inquiring about my paycheck, as it had been over a month. I was told only then that it had already been sent to the address in my profile. The address I had moved out and had no communication with at all, in a neighborhood with a high number of thefts. I told them to immediately stop payment on the check because I was worried that it would be stolen.

They did not give me any notice on whether they had or not, just gave me runaround emails, like this example:
"If you had a specific request regarding your paycheck, you should have told the Booker. The records dept. is at another location, and there is no way of knowing whether or not they received your note. And they gave me no contact info of these bookers or records dept.
They left me a voicemail to call them, I called and got a runaround on the automated voice system.

I am really fed up with them. They owe me over $300 for the work I did for them.

Check mailed yesterday

AUTHOR: Jew33 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 01, 2008

I got an update from the CEO himself that the check was mailed yesterday, and they were NOT withholding it, even though I never stated that they were withholding it, just that they hadn't sent it and I was getting frustrated with the runaround I was getting.

If they had explained to me in the first week when we were exchanging email that I had to pay $20 and get it resent, I would have gladly agreed in an instant. I was getting frustrated with all the time passing and no word on whether or not they had cancelled it, to prevent theft.

Overall, the job they gave me was a good job, and things would have gone smoothly if I hadn't made the mistake of putting my current mailing address in my profile instead of my permanent one. But I wish they would have run a little more smoothly to help me correct my mistake.

Finally came through...

AUTHOR: Jew33 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 31, 2008

First of all, I admit that it WAS my error putting a temporary address in my profile, but I had no idea if they were going to send me some documents in the mail or not, so I put it just in case.

Here is the timeline.
My first email to them was on the status of my paycheck. I got a response pretty quickly, and found that it had already been sent to the wrong address. This was on 1/19.

On 1/20, I made my first request to stop payment and resend to my current address. On 1/22 I got a reply saying I should "contact the Booker, and there is no way of knowing of the records dept. had recieved my note". I replied on 1/23 with my address, and asked for the contact info of the records dept, or forward them my information ASAP, because my main concern was stopping the check before it was stolen. On 1/24 I requested the contact information of the records dept or whoever I needed to talk to because I wasn't getting help from the "help dept".

They did try to contact me by phone, and I tried to return the call and literally got ran in circles by the automated voice system. It would say "If this is about payment, press 3," and after I pressed, it would just loop the same message again.

I waited for another call, and finally sent them an email about my experience with the voicemail. They replied asking me what address the check was sent to, what address I would like it sent to, and if I would like to cancel the check and reissue it for a $20 fee, something that should have gone on in the very beginning, almost 2 weeks ago!

My main issue with this is the time. Two weeks is a bit too long to wait for someone to stop payment on a check, especially when I stated that I am not living where it was sent to and that I have no contact with the current residents. If they had given me email with the instructions, the $20 fee, etc, in maybe a few days or a week I wouldn't have had any reason to worry.
