I own a reputable automotive shop in Texas and have purchased many used engines from Engine World USA over the past 5 years. We have developed a good relationship and I always pick my engines up at their warehouse.

Recently I purchased a rebuilt engine, because they didn't have a used engine for a customers 2007 Toyota Rav4 2.4L Engine. Upon receiving the engine it was found to have no timing components installed, and broken bolts in various places on the engine. So we extracted the broken bolts and installed the timing components to make ready before placing into vehicle. Once this was done we attenmpted to roll the engine over by hand only to find something was binding up. After some investigation on our part it was determined Engine World had installed the wrong balance shafts in the engine therefore binding up not allowing the engine to turn over.

We returned the engine to them to have them reinstall the correct balance shafts and also to install the timing components again so we didn't have any problems after installation that would be brought back upon us. We sent a 30+ year experienced mechanic to spectate to make sure things were done properly to ensure the engine was ready for installation and we wouldn;t have any further issues. What he saw at engineworldusa that day was appalling. Upon removing the oil pan to install the new balance shaft, the "mechanic" was grinding gasket material off and allowing it to fall right into the engine. At that point we told them we no longer would accept that motor and wanted our money back, or another "used" engine that they haven't worked on...because clearly they are NOT capable. After lots of bickering back and forth and much cleaning we accepted the motor under the conditions that if we had any problems, they would take care of it. I'm not sure what that means to them, but it's not what we consider taking care of customers as we would later discover.

We installed the engine in the customers vehicle and sent the vehicle out. Two days later she had a check engine light. Returned the vehicle only to have a cam timing error. After more diagnostic time on our part it was found that the cam timing had been set incorrectly by their "mechanic." Keep in mind we were told they have rebuilt numerous engines of this model and had no issues. Also, it had an oil leak from the cylinder head gasket. Turns out they also can't install gaskets or torque heads properly..Big surprise after seeing the grinding incident.

At this point we are infuriated because this is a 19hr job on the AWD Rav4. I called them and they told me they had another engine they would give us, and would pay me $200 labor...This is comical because we didn't want this engine in the first place after seeing their operation. It should be called Used Japan Salvage Yard because it's nothing more than that.

Long story short we installed 2 motors before it was all over. Had 38 hours invested in the job, and recovered $300 for labor from these idiots.

Moral of the Story: Buy from Engine World don't expect help on warranty. Their Quality Control they speak so highly of is bull crap. NEVER buy a remanufactured engine from Engine World USA - usedjapanmotors.com

They are NOT capable of rebuilding an engine properly!
