Background: My boss required a coworker and I to rent cars from Enterprise Rent-a-Car, citing that he would pay for both of the rentals. My boss and coworker decided to switch the cars while I was sleeping, taking off in my rental on a business trip, leaving me with my coworker's rental.

I got a hold of my boss when I woke up, who assured me they'd be back within a couple of days.

My boss and coworker did not return for weeks.

During that time, I received no paycheck, no reimbursements, no money whatsoever. I was fed up and told my boss I couldn't afford to continue working for him.

He got irate and started in with insults and threats, so I told him I was done talking to him. Scared, tired, broke, and hungry, I drove my coworker's rental car to a neighborhood a few miles away from a friend's home, parked it, and hid the key under the vehicle.

When my coworker finally called to "switch cars again", and I told him I wouldn't take back the car they took from me, (I had no idea what they were up to in it), but I could tell him where his rental was so he could pick it up.

After giving him the cross streets for where the car was parked, I thought that'd be good riddance to them both.

---------------------

Here is where the fun really begins:

After that conversation with my coworker, the phone they had given me was remotely locked and wiped, and the cell phone bill wasn't paid so it was shut off. Not a total surprise, but it meant cutting off communication with Enterprise, as this was the number I had given them when I signed for my rental.

No problem, though, Enterprise Rent-a-Car found an interesting way to reach me alright, but it wasn't to survey my experience to see if I was completely satisfied.

Enterprise hired Dave Chavez, who works for a company by the name of "General Investigations Unit". This guy presented himself as a detective in a call to my FATHER. Dave used a stern tone and enough legalese to convince my father that I was being pursued in a case regarding a stolen car.

I needed to get my mail from my dad's house, but instead of being invited over, I was told about Mr. Chavez's call. My father told me I was being investigated about a stolen car and should stay away from him and his house. I was absolutely floored, emotionally wrecked, but kept it together long enough to get Chavez's contact info.

I reached out to him multiple times through text messages, calls, voicemails, and searched online for an e-mail or any other company information so I could get a hold of him. I couldn't find anything online about them.

Dave Chavez on behalf of Enterprise Rent-a-Car left me a voicemail that first inquired about the car I was "given" by my coworker. Then the messages got nastier, changing his tone to the car I "took" from my coworker, and worse.

He called me a liar over another voicemail, saying that his office has records of all calls that come through, and that I'd better stop playing games. His "office" is a VOIP line, he didn't respond to my texts until a day later and accused me of not calling at all.

I have records to PROVE that I called and sent messages over multiple services and phone lines!

------------------

Enterprise Rent-a-Car's customer service gets worse.

I called the local Enterprise Rent-a-Car in tears wanting an explanation, why they were continuing to harass me and call my family every day over a car that wasn't rented by me! I was told the manager would call me back on his personal line.

He left a rude voicemail after I missed the first callback, saying he was calling about "the rental car I will not return. We know that you have it. We need you to bring that back or else it will escalate from here. We have sent a letter out."

I didn't sign for the car, my coworker did, he didn't pick it up, he didn't return it, but they are harassing ME because I drove it last?

I told Mike of Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Los Angeles that my coworker and boss took the car I had rented, and that no, it wasn't a voluntary switch (I didn't agree to allow other drivers on my rental agreement!), and that I called my coworker to tell him where he could go to pick up the car that he had rented.

Anything beyond that is not my issue. It was weeks ago and I don't remember what streets I was on when I left it all this time later. My coworker should have picked it up like he agreed to, and returned it like he agreed to.

I asked Mike, still in tears, what I had to do to get them to stop harassing me, and he said I'd have to file a police report! The call ended shortly after that. My dad still won't speak to me, and I can't get my mail or untie the knots in my stomach over this mistreatment.

I called the police, and they said since no crime had been committed, they wouldn't do anything. That is, until Enterprise calls and wants to file charges. I asked if I could file charges regarding the harassment, and was told to talk to a lawyer. I've consulted with a couple but waiting to give Enterprise the chance to respond to this report first, hoping someone there has common sense and actually cares about customer service (not to mention what is RIGHT).

---------------

I am flat broke after being screwed out of weeks of wages by my boss, but I still came to terms with the fact that I have to deal with the charges being forced through on my credit card for the rental car I signed for -- which I never even set eyes on again after my boss and coworker took off in it.

I was ready to accept the fact that I had to pay for the rental I signed for, along with all the tickets that my coworker and boss accrued while they had it, but I am NOT willing to take responsibility for a car that I didn't sign for, NOR will I tolerate being bullied and harassed by appalling and rude Enterprise Holdings Inc employees who treat their customer's like criminals!

I DIDN'T SIGN THE RENTAL AGREEMENT FOR MY COWORKER'S CAR! IT'S NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY THAT ANOTHER RENTER THEY HAVE AN AGREEMENT WITH IS IN BREACH OF CONTRACT!

------------

Enterprise Holdings, Inc. parent company of its subsidiaries like Enterprise Rent-a-Car, make $19.4 Billion dollars in yearly revenue, do you think they give a d**n about ruining my reputation with my family, my financial problems, or my well being? NO.

Enterprise Holdings, Inc. in their own mission statement says that they're committed to customer service, but I am hard pressed to believe it!

I'd welcome an attempt by them to make it right, but until then, all I can do is curl up and try to brace myself for their threatened escalation!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY ENTERPRISE, AND ALL OF ITS SUBSIDIARIES IF YOU VALUE YOUR REPUTATION, TIME, BUSINESS, OR MONEY!!

Amanda I hope the car has been returned by this point and the matter settled. It sounds like this was a MESSY rental in more than one way. I would like to follow up with you. Enterprise is not your biggest problem..

You have a lot of issues going on, but none of them really involve or are the fault of Enterprise.  In fact in reading your report it sounds like for a lot of your issues you may have been your own worst enemy.

For one, there is not one mention of you attempting to contact Enterprise when they took your car.  That should have been one of the first things you did when they "borrowed" your car.  You should have notified them that your friend had it and the other car was there.  Personally, I would have taken it one step further and called the police as well.

There was zero reason for you to drive your friends car.  Was it some strange attempt to hide it?  That car by your own claims is not your responsibiltiy.  So why do you care if it was taken, nothing happened to it or eaten by an alien space craft?  But even here there is a point of responsibilty.  You INTENTIONALLY left the keys with the car making it vulnerable to people that may want to steal it.  This is in just about every aspect negligence and you would be held liable..regardless if it was your car or not.

Your story would be 1000 times more belieiveable had you been up front with them from the beginning.  But even after you get the car back and refuse to take it, leaving it up for Enterprise to contact you.  That just makes you look like the guilty party.  They are going to be more believing of a person that contact them, than a person they have to track down through a Private Detective.

The fact is that you admit you were responsible for the car that they borrowed.  But YOU failed to contact them when your friend stole the car.  Not only that but you admit you drove the other car.  So if they got to Enterprise first and gave them the story that you switched cars voluntarily...why would they think it would be any different?

In the end..you need a lawyer.  NOT to sue them for harrassement.  But to DEFEND you against them, because you are going to need it.  You also need a good attorney to go after your this ex employer and friend as you may be able to recover some damages against them.
