althoug Epson is following the law, according to a ruling several years ago, I am sending a warning out to other consumers. For those of you who have found comfort in after market ink refills, allowing the cost of printing at home to be reasonable, be prepared for Epson's monopoly. Because of a court hearing, Epson is now allowed to place chips in their printers that forbid the use of any ink refill cartrige other than their own. Obviously, the price gouging is incredible. As usual, you can practically by a new computer for the price of one complete refill of their ink cartriges. The real scan that they are committing is that they are putting out rebates and sales that allow their printers to look like a significant bargain compaired to the other printer brands. Obviously, they do not warn you about the expensive ongoing costs of ink refills.

Again, they are not breaking any laws. They have already addressed that. However, the marketplace needs to know the reality of how expensive it is to own an Epson printer.

Try a CISS System

AUTHOR: Kym-berly - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 16, 2009

I use a Ciss system that supplies a continuous stream of ink into the cartridges. Every 100-200 Pages I print, I get a alert that Im out of ink. This isnt possible because I can see my ink level in the ink system. I remove the cartridges, hit the handy reset button and put the cartridges back in and start printing again. My Ciss system cost me $38.00 and new ink is $20 for all six colors. Its has cut my annual ink bill by over 75%

Don't use ink refills in my epson...ever

AUTHOR: Jgracey - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, June 15, 2009

I certainly could not buy a new computer or printer for the cost of a set of ink refills for my epson. Neither did I use generic refills for any of my previous printers (HPs and Lexmark).

Why? Because the ink and the papers are made to work together. Longer lasting and better quality prints when you use ink made for the paper.

I don't think epson is any different than many manufacturers in terms of ink cost. My printer takes 8 ink cartridges at $14.00 (that's $122) All the cartridges don't require replacing at the same time, except for the initial purchase I've never had to replace a complete set at once.

The two ink cartridges for my HP cost $65, ran out a heck of a lot sooner than the epson, and I had to replace them both, usually about once a month. (still have that old HP)

The cost over the course of a year averages out to be pretty close. In fact, last year I spent less (by about $12) over the year than I did on the cartridges for the HP the prior year.

I would guess it might be a matter of what's important to the purchaser. I sell prints for a living, so I want quality.
