no one can gave you a firm price over the phone and we do tell about fuel surchare and all most all moving co have it and the ones that dont charage a lot more

As a current employee of a moving company, I can tell you that moving companies do charge a fuel surcharge. Our company charges this on all moves and it is clearly stated in each estimate. My suggestion to you would be to get the estimate in writing. You probably would have seen the fuel surcharge and wouldn't have been shocked afterwards.

Basically, when a quote is given, it is an estimated cost of what the move could be. We question all the people thoroughly on contents and items to be moved and any other services that may be required. We explain our fees upfront and on our contracts, the prices are clearly stated as quoted.
Customers can also be a problem as if they do not become straight up with the moving information based on the price, it could cost them more. The customer has an obligation as does the mover to be forthcoming and honest in all transactions. We as a company do not agree with this consumer's complaint about our services and therefore feel we do a good quality job for a reasonable price.

First, no moving company is going to give you a price over the telephone that is going to stay the same price in the end. The moving industry deals with everything IN WRITING. In other words, whatever they tell you over the telephone is worthless, regardless of what it is they tell you. The written word is everything. If they provided you nothing in writing - then you didn't receive anything remotely close to an estimate - let alone a non-binding price guaranteed to increase.

Next, the fuel surcharge is standard in the industry for all interstate moves, and even some intrastate moves. The fact they didn't tell you is sort of irrelevant, again for the reasons indicated above.

Finally, Florida is the home of scam movers and I would bet the farm (and I know since I've already checked) that most movers in Florida have complaints for that reason. Moving is NOT an inexpensive venture and choosing the cheapest mover is a great way to find yourself ripped off for more than what a reputable mover would charge you. I would say that if you were only ripped off for $50, you got off pretty light; most people are scammed for thousands.
