I am attemting to re-establish credit and upon the advise of a mortgage broker, I applied for a non-secured credit card. OH, how I wish I'd found THIS website before I found First Premier Bank's website!! Anyway, I DID read about the fees, so I was prepared budget-wise to make my first payment on my first bill from Premier. Ahhhh, innocent lamb.

Went online this morning, entered bank information, and then input the amount I wanted to pay. BAM-ugly pop-up message that my account has been blocked and to call the Customer Service line. So, called. I was told because I tried to enter an amount greater than the amount that Premier showed as owed, it was a "fraud" alert and the account was blocked.

Huh? I have kept careful track of what was due according the statement (which I received less than 30 days prior to the due date - like, ummm, one week after I received the card and about two weeks before the due date of 06-03. I was told by the Customer Rep (who was polite I want to note) that there would be a 24-72 block on the card while the "Security Dept" confirms my bank information (huh?) that I CANNOT pay an amount greater than what THEY show as owed and that yes, the 72 hour possible hold WILL put me dangerously close to the deadline date of 06-03 BUT they "would extend" the due date to 06-09. I asked, well, will there be a late fee? oh no.

So my question to the room is this: should I pay from Premier's website, pay from my bank's website, or take no chances and pay through Western Union?

Western Union

AUTHOR: Rosella - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 14, 2006

Hopefully this will help... I have had a First Premier account for a couple of years. I learned that in order to avoid a delay in a payment posting, Western Union is the best bet. It costs $12, but they charge you $7 to pay by electronic check anyway. With Western Union, it posts the next day and you don't have to worry about any holds on your account. I have learned to accept the fees... They aren't fun, but I read the disclosure before I agreed to the terms of the card, so I knew that they were coming. Oh, and Orchard Bank is on this site as well. Just a heads up. I just got approved for a card from them and then I found this site, so let's hope I don't have any problems with Orchard either...

Hope you get it all worked out!

I wish I had come to this site sooner!

I didn't realize how many complaints against this card there were. And I can understand most of them already and I've only had this card for a couple of weeks now. They charge you for everything. Making payments is 7 dollars. They charge you an internet access fee. They charge you for additional card holder use, but they don't send another card.

I submitted a payment 2 weeks ago and it still hasn't been posted to my account on my available credit. They said they need to verify payment with my bank. It cleared with my bank a while ago. I've never had a payment take this long to clear.

I have other credit cards and they usually go through the next day. I also am using Orchard Bank to rebuild my credit, I think I may just stick with them and never use the First Premier card. The fees are not as abundant and I've never had any problems with them. Or I may just get rid of it all together. I don't need it.

sorry if you had trouble

when accts are just opened if you do attempt to over pay it does through up some red flags and does cause premier to block payments but only from that checking acct. i would have suggested using either western union or mail a check/ moneyorder or even have your bank wire funds directly to first premier bank. normally it would only take a few days to release the hold on the acct then you can still make payments through the website or by calling into premier bankcard. again if you have problems just callin normally most problems can be fixed. if you listen to most people on this website then everyone that works at premier is about as bright as a brick but i think you will find that the vast majority of everyone ther is more then willing and able to help you. afterall be nice to use and we will be nice to you. swearing gets people nowhere

Clarification

AUTHOR: Cathy a. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006

I want to make myself a tad clearer - was in the throes of "huh?-dom" when I first posted. I can't even PAY the account until the Security Department "releases" the account - and all because I wanted to pay an amount GREATER than what they show as my balance - they show $163.50, I entered $193.50 because I knew there was a $20 charge for a "second-authorized-card-carrier" and $10 because the second carrier used the card at a restaurant (dang him, dang him all to....!!).

I clicked on pay, and that's when I got the message stating I had to call the Security Department - I wasn't given an opportunity to re-enter an amount, etc. So, now I can't do ANYTHING until the account is released, supposedly within 24-72 hours. I started to go into my Bank of America Pay Bill and go ahead and send them the $163.50 just so I could be sure that the payment is received by 06-03, my statement's due date. But I'm afraid, because with MY luck, they'll take the $163.50 from Bank of American and the $193.50 I "attempted" to pay them today through First Premier's website.

My husband has the same card

AUTHOR: Mandy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006

My husband was also trying to rebuild his credit and got the first premier bank card (against my better judgement). We knew about all the fees, and paid them when they were due. I wanted to pay online until i realized there was additional fees to do this. Something you may want to consider. So every month I mail in a check about a week before it is due and I have never had a problem with them receiving it late.

We havent had any problems with them until recently his annual fee was taking out of the card I believe it is about $48 dollars. Well there wasnt enough on the card to cover that. So of course there was an over the limit fee. But the thing that got me was they started calling before the bill was due saying that we now had an over the limit fee and they want their money now. I just politely told them that when i see the bill I will pay whatever is owed. The CSR was not very happy with that, but she accepted it and I have not gotten another phone call from that yet. So in my opinion Just Mail in your payment at least a week in advance, and you should not have any problems, and it will save you additional fees.

Within a certain time, you can close it out and owe nothing.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006

If you have had the card less than 30 days and you have not made any charges with the card, cancel it. All the fees will be cancelled too if you exercise your right to close the account before using the card.

If you can't cancel, pay at least the minimum payment immediately. With any credit card, even FP, it is best to pay exactly the full "statement balance" shown on the statement every month before the due date. It is not necessary to pay more than that in order to avoid interest and fees.

Suggestions...

AUTHOR: Michelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 25, 2006

I would pay through their website, print screening every screen as I progressed and the final with confirmation number and date. If they say online (most do) what there processing time is and cut-off time, I would print that page too. If you pay through your bank or Western Union, they could always claim a delay on those companies end and try to charge a fee. If I was so unsure about this company, I would pay them off entirely and go with a more reputable card issuer, so you don't have to concern yourself with this in the future. Hope this helps!!
