I have had a First Premeire card for over 7 years and have always been under the credit limit.  I cancelled my card in March 2014.  Tonight I received a phone call from "unknown' regarding being over the credit limit.  When I asked them why, Brian, the rep stated it was because the annual feel and my $15 purchase put me over the credit limit and he wanted to schedule a payment.  I told him to close my credit account with them, this was rediculous and I did not want to deal with them again.  Also told him I had closed my account in March, however, they did not close it.  I also advised him that any negative "ding" on my credit report(s) due to their fee is actionable.  He tried to convince me to keep my account open.  I told him no.  Once it was closed he demanded to know how I was going to pay off the balance and he needed to schedule a payment.  I hung up on him.

First Premiere charges usary fees.  29% interest is rediculous.  Stay far away from them.

Rebuttal to First Premiere

AUTHOR: Michele - ()

POSTED: Friday, April 11, 2014

The rep, Brian, did not tell me when the $15 charge posted.  he also said that the statement generated on April 8 - I obviously did not receive the statement.  He called three days after the statement issued.  This is harassment.  I will file a complaint with the attorney general.

So here is a question...

If you supposedly closed the account in March, just how did you have a $15 purchase?

It appears even after 7 years you are still acting like a sub-prime borrower who doesn't know how credit works.

A company will NOT close an account with a balance.  They may stop new charges, but as long as you have a balance your account is NOT closed.  This means that you are still subject to the existing terms until the balance is $0.  So any interest, or fees can and will still be charged.  If any of this puts you over your credit line you still can be considered over the limit and again be charged a fee on that.  These are all in the terms you agreed to when you opened your card and the way EVERY credit card works.

Oh and yes they can still report any negative "dings" about your account.  The only thing "actionable" is if you fail to pay your balance they can turn you over to collections and may eventually sue you.

One other thing. It is amazing how you are upset at their 29% interest rate.  But you didn't mind it when they were the only ones who would offer you credit because you had screwed your credit up so much.
