I called and booked FlatRate Movers on Tuesday, 10/12/2010 to come to my apartment that Friday, 10/15. They took my credit card information (linked to my bank account) and confirmed my appointment both over the phone and through an E-mail. I called back on Thursday morning to confirm and provide the exact address of the storage facility I am using. Again, I received another confirmation E-mail on 10/14.

At 11:05am I called to get an estimated time of arrival, they said they would call me back at noon and never did. I called back at 1pm and was told that they had cancelled my appointment because I failed to confirm the previous day. They called me while I was in a meeting at work, I called back and no one answered. I had already confirmed on the phone that very same day. A woman named Sue (who thought she had to spell her name for me) was incredibly unhelpful, gave me the run around, tried to claim my credit card didn't go through (there's plenty of money in the account) and wouldn't let me speak to a manager, instead trying to get me to speak to customer service. The saleswoman, Samantha, also claimed that I did not confirm, total lie.

Becuase of what they did I have to now pay my landlord more as it activated a timeframe beyond my lease, and I am already paying for another apartment. FlatRate are liars, unhelpful, and overbook to ensure they are busy with no regard for the ramifications of their actions.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

A response from FlatRate

AUTHOR: Flatrate moving customer service manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 14, 2010

I am Vickie Roehling, Customer Service Manager at FlatRate Moving.  I looked up information on this move estimate and it seems this was simply a misunderstanding. Charles did indeed call for an estimate for his move.  We sent out a confirmation email but his response was not received.  We called his office and left a message - when he called back it must have been after hours since we did not pick up.  Without written or verbal confirmation, we do not send estimators out to a job.

We do not charge cards until a move is confirmed and this is not handled by the salesperson.  Charles was working with Zulieka, but her nickname is Sue and she spells it to avoid confusion, not to be insulting. Ultimately, the customer did book his move with FlatRate.

In the end, he called to cancel his move with Flatrate 2 days before the move, saying he had found another company to move him at a cheaper rate.

If Charles had not been able to move out with another company, he could have called us back and we would have been glad to accomodate him.
