The Nationwide Property Inspection also goes by Foreclosure Bank Inspector advertises for Contractors and Sub-contractors in mulit-cities to conduct inspections. They request each applicant to pay $89 for the background check and once they receive it they will mail out a Foreclosure Kit. Once an applicant gets the kit they have to complete a 60-question test, 10 questions on racial bias and an Availability form. The company then notifies an individual if they have been hired as a contractor or sub-contractor. I did everything the company requested to do.
When I called and spoke with Jay Vincent, owner, he informed me I would receive an application in the mail to become a sub-contractor. According to him the company doesn't call individuals to become sub-contractors they would have to call in and request to become a sub-contractor. However one of the supervisors informed they do ont mail applications instead you have to apply for auto insurance and send at least 100 letters to banks and attorneys who purchase foreclosured houses.
In the Foreclosure Kit it doesn't explain a sub-contractor has to sent out over 100 letters to get a response. This is very important information that other people should know about. They need to know in order to work with Nationwide Property Inspections you have to pay $89, then $200 for insurance, $39-50 to mail letters a week, parking fees to visit the courthouse on a weekly basis.
According to the website the cost of the background check has been reduced to $69.
When I requested a refund I was told that I would not be refunded $89.

Although they say they are providing a service for the $89.00. I wonder how much they are actually paying for these so-called background checks or if they are doing them at all.
I think that Mike Cox, Michigan's Attorney General, needs to investigate this company. Here is his website: http://www.michigan.gov/ag. Let him know the magnitude of how many people have been taken by this shady company. They should launch a full scale investigation.
I think they should find out if in fact this company is actually doing these background checks or just pocketing the money.
Hey Mr. Cox, do you job and you may end up re-elected or on Bill O'Reilly!

Boy do I wish I had seen this artical about Bank Forecloser Inspectors...but I too had sent the 89 bucks for back ground check then two weeks later got all there paper work and filled out all that they asked and haven't heard back from them after placing two calls to them. I think that if there are a lot of us 'dummies' out there then we should go after this ripoff company with someone for interstate advertising and deception.... or at least tellyour local paper where the ad was placed not to do any business with them,,,they need to be stopped and stopped now.

Never pay for anything that says your hired

I am a real estate broker in California under Premier Properties Group. There are guidelines for all real estate no matter what the disposition. One you sell or buy property and want representation that individual is a real estate agent and is licensed by the State of California. Property Inspectors (which this thread is all about) are licensed contractors and must abide by California rules. You use anyone else and I guarantee problems. Property Appraisers are regulated by the State and must be certified. Lastly with foreclosures there are BPO's broker price opinions which real estate licensed people do and must pay for E&O insurance. These BPO's typically pay only $50 per home. They take minutes to do but with $75 per month for the cheapest E&O insurance you better have more than one a month. Good luck. Typically E&O insurance for non real estate licensed professional runs a couple grand a year.
So a word of warning. If you want to become a property inspector get your contractors license otherwise you may be sued. Additionally you should be bonded, and have that pesky E&O insurance. I will not use you if you do not meet the above criteria. Banks are no different than myself when it comes to the risk assessment towards who they use. I have 2 years experience working with many of the banks listed on the foreclosure bank inspector we site and I can tell you they are very tough to work with. This idea you find homes before anyone else does to convince lawyers and bankers to invest in these properties is a scheme that will not work. Never pay anyone for anything (including $89 for a background check) when you are being told to fill out an application. Anyone who would like to learn more about becoming a licensed property inspector should look to their states websites for licensed contractors, appraisers, and property inspectors.
