We called them because of the great reviews online. Thinking back, many of them were probably written and posted by the company itself. Granted, we had to change the pick-up date a few times. But they were always willing (or so they said) to accommodate us. Finally, when we gave them a hard date for pick up, they claimed that they couldn’t do it and that we formerly agreed to a different date (untrue).
Although we were left high and dry, scrambling for another mover, they called back, agreeing to do the pick up. They requested a bank check up front for the first part of the move, then cash upon delivery to the storage facillity. We agreed, because, as we explained, we would be driving down to meet them at the warehouse in order to inspect the delivery. If all was OK, we would pay the balance in cash at that time.
They arived at our apartment and on the promised date and started to pack--all the time cheeriy agreeing (over and over) to a time-frame for delivery--which was within 3-4 days. They understood that this time-frame was crucial because we needed to be there and back for work-related issues.
When the freight was finally in the truck, they demanded an additional amount (far above their original, signed estimate) because, as they explained, our boxes took up more space than expected. Beware!--A common trick! What could we do but to meet their demands? Our whole apartment was now wrapped up in their truck. The next day, we drove down to meet them at the warehouse. The trip took only two days.
When the truck was nowhere in sight, we called the dispatcher who claimed that they were a little delayed because of bad weather, but that they would be there shortly. More days, more excuses--an accident, the driver got sick--you name it. Several days later when they still had not arrived we were forced to leave without ever seeing the delivery or the contents.
THREE WEEKS LATER AND AFTER WAREHOUSE HOURS an assistant who just happened to be there called us to say that they had just arrived--what should he do? He graciously agreed to accommodate us (and the haulers) by unlocking our storage facility, supervising them, and securing our contents--at 9:00 p.m.!
They ‘allowed’ to let us send them the balance by check, rather than demanding cash from the warehouse assistant.
After our complaints to them, they decreased the bill by $600. The cost (they claimed) of the padding (old blankets) that they left with the shipment.
To this day--4 months later, we have not been able to return to see our shipment--or its condition. We have 9 months if any claims are to be made on damages. Even then, they will pay only 60 cents per pound on any damaged goods. For instance, if our 600-pound baby grand piano were to be totaled, we would be reimbursed $360! WHAT A SCAM!!!
