Furniture ripoff layaway nothing stole Mesquite Texas

In Novemeber of 2002, my now ex-husband went and put over $200 down on some furniture for me as a X-mas present. We were told after selecting our furniture, that the 90-day layaway did not apply & that as long as we were making payments, we'd be able to keep the furniture in layaway, but if it extended past the 90 days we might lose that style, which was fine.

We made 3 more payments totaling around $450. The last payment, which was our largest payment was over 4 months from the date we signed the layaway agreement.

I left my husband a few months later. I had a toddler, no place to go, and no furniture to sleep on. My parents were going to pay off my furniture as a gift for me, since I was paying so much for a down payment on an apt.

We went up to pay off the furniture completely, and they told me since it had been over the 90 day period, they would not honor the agreement and I could not have my money back. After arguing, they said they would credit half my money to me to a purchase of equal or greater value than the original agreement.

I contacted the Better Business Bureau in hopes of getting something from this company, and the company did not respond. So in the end, I lost hundreds of dollars for absolutely nothing.

I hope this company was happy to rip-off a single mother escaping an abuisive relationship.
