Golfsmith Manager is Liar about Price Match Policy Duluth, Georgia

On Feb. 19th, 2010 I was in the Golfsmith store in Duluth, GA looking for golf clubs to purchase as a gift for my father.  While there I found exactly what I was looking for, 2008 Cobra FP II irons with graphite shafts in senior flex.  Golfsmith's advertised price was $399.99.  I had been online earlier that day and seen the same clubs advertised for $299.99 at Edwin Watts.

I asked the sales clerk whether or not Golfsmith does price matching.  He told me they did with the manager's approval.  I informed the clerk of Edwin Watts price and he even pulled up their website and confirmed the price.  The manager was on the phone about 2 registers away at that time.  I patiently waited over 15 minutes for him to get off the phone.  (In retrospec I believe he was hoping I would leave.)

Once the manager was off the phone, the clerk showed him the website.  The manager told me that price matching was at his discretion and he would loose money at the lower price.  I didn't believe him but didn't know Golfsmith's written policy or have access to a computer to check.  I left the store to look elsewhere.

Following is the 1st part of Golfsmith's low price guarantee:

We'll match there price plus 15% of the difference. Golfsmith is proud to offer extremely competitive, low pricing on our selection of leading brand-name merchandise. We believe our prices compare favorably with those found anywhere on the internet. Should you happen to find a lower price, we're proud to offer a Low Price Guarantee.

There guarantee goes on to even promise a rebate if you've bought merchandise in the last 30 days.  It does have restrictions on certain brands. Cobra isn't one with restrictions.
