Dating Service Rip offs. Great Expectations to be specific in my case.

They gave me a real hard sell which I fell for at a very vulnerable stage in my life. The very next day after losing a whole nights sleep I changed my mind. I called first thing in the morning to see what they needed, if anything, to cancel. They told me I needed to talk to my sales person. So I had to call back. I did finally talk to her that day. She insisted I think about it overnight and that she would be available the next day to discuss it. Well guess what, she was not available. I called several times that day and she never returned my call. The following day (day 3) I talked to her. She told me I needed to talk to Ed Allen, manager of Great Expectations, Schuamburg. He was not available but would call. I asked Tracy the sales girl, if I needed to send anything in writing. She point blank told me that first I needed to talk to Ed because it was up to him. He did not call me back. I called a few times day 4 and finally contacted him. He told me it was too late. I only had days to cancel in writing. I could not beleive my ears. And I have spend the last 2 plus months trying everything I can to get my money back. After this happened I checked the BBB (to late obviously) They have an unsatisfactory rating and are not eligible as members.

People need to be made aware of business like this.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

I failed to mention . . .

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 12, 2006

To Cassandra of Sacramento, California, the United States Supreme Court has termed something called the "Least sophisticated consumer" and what that means, is contract or no contract, if the consumer communicated with an "Agent" of the company that she wishes to cancel, the cancellation is thusly effected.

I don't know what is in you contract, but the consumer communicated to more than one person that they wished to cancel and you delayed.

Additionally, your company has a "Duty" to mitigate it's circumstances and as such they also have a "Duty" to inform the consumer of the proper means to cancel if the consumer does not understand the contract.

Finally, by not dealing in good faith, your company now had "dirty hands" and the doctrine of dirty hands means - basically - that you can't then come in and cry foul. Also by delaying her ability to cancel, they actually engaged in fraud.

Double Finally, if you used the US Mail to send her the contract and then did not deal with her in good faith, you may be guilty of mail fraud and the US Postal Inspectors tend to take a dim view of this.

Go to your AG's office - Fraud Division

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

What they did was a stall tactic. Get ahold of your Attorney General - Fraud Division and file a claim against them.

Chances are, you will be successful.

Reading the Contract

AUTHOR: Cassandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 12, 2006

With all due respect, you should have read the contract. I work for Great Expectations and have been for quite awhile now. In the contract, it lays out the cancellation policy. If you tried to dispute this with your credit card company, we won simply because it's written in your contract, which you signed, how to cancel your membership. It's not our fault that you didn't read your contract. Be careful what you sign next time.
