Great Expectations Summit Center appears no longer to be in business. Their phone is "disconnected at the customer's request". Certified mail, receipt requested to the owner, Stephen Cournoyer, returned as undeliverable with no forwarding address. Sally, the Sales Director had told me that Mr. Cournoyer lives in Florida but comes back to NJ once a month for his mail. There are no recorded "new prospects" for the past few months. When attempting to recently "register" for this service on-line as most of us originally did, there is a message that there is no service near where I live and I was automatically connected to another service....which I did not want. Mr.Cournoyer has apparently taken our money and run.
I realized soon after joining this Center in June 2008 that they had misrepresented the services they had to offer. I went along with Sally and Sofia to see if anything would improve but by early November realizing that 2-3 new prospects in my age bracket had signed on there was little prospect that this three year contract that I had signed up for was going to result in any dates much less relationships. After an arduous phone call with Sally, the Center Sales Director I had dealt with, I said I needed to write a letter and Sally, who would not give me her last name, gave me the owner's name, Stephen Cournoyer. In my letter to Mr. Cournoyer I requested a refund after pointing out how their services were misrepresented, that the pool of prospects in my age bracket (60+) who lived within a 20 minute ride from me did not exist. The response from Mr. Cournoyer was that there would be no refund...that I was using their services. The use of their services resulted in no connection with any of their prospects....their pool of prospects was too small, lived too far away, or had few to no interests or background compatible with mine.
I have filed a complaint with the NJ Division of Consumer Affaire, Office of the Attorney General. I have called the credit card company that I charged this service to and they immediately tried to call the company and found the phone was disconnected. This was in early February 2009. I found that a second letter to Mr. Cournoyer was not deliverable. I let the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs know about the telephone and address events. I am now attempting to track how the complaint is being handled.
I urge anyone with a Great Expectations contract with the Summit Center to contact the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs if they have experienced what I have experienced and to contact their state legislators.
