My experience with Gunther VW at Delray has been extremely disappointing, especially with regards to poor customer service and misleading sales maneuvers. Three months ago, I went through all the expected motions of buying a car at Gunther Volkswagen. My salesperson was helpful and went though the whole process with me until I signed on the dotted line. I had decided on a pre-owned car, with one important criterion: The Carfax report was CLEAN (no accidents or other mechanical issues). I was told by the dealer that it was clean; about 2 weeks later, Ifound out by another VW dealer that the car had been in an accident and it was NOT properly disclosed by Joe Gunter’s people. The car had several issues; worse yet, the attitudes of the owner and the service manager were atrocious. They were condescending, rude, and outright dismissive.
All I asked was that they admit their error and take back the vehicle they sold me; I would not have purchased the car at that price knowing what I later discovered about it. They said they would do me a courtesy and buy the car back for $4000 less than what I paid – How is that a courtesy if other dealers were offering the same for my vehicle? There were so many faults with the car; it could NOT have legitimately passed their so-called CPO inspection.
I did not sign the CPO report, nor did I get a copy; it was not presented to me at any time when I purchased the vehicle. The only time I received my CPO report was a month or so later after I had contacted VW direct and they had to request it from Gunther. Many items that were deemed as passing had to be fixed or replaced by another dealer or by me. Here are just a few examples: The bumper had been previously removed and was repainted after an accident, there were parts missing from the jack/tool kit which I had to inform them about and have them provide me with the missing parts, the sunroof seal had to be replaced, the radio (sound system) was not functioning and had to be replaced, the driver’s door seal (weather stripping) had to be replaced, and the steering alignment had to be done twice. The steering wheel is still skew and the car was still pulling to the right. The service manager Vasil Blagoev himself told me that they were doing me a courtesy by re-doing the alignment for the second time at that “all their cars pull to the side”.
The dealer said that they did the inspection when I left the car there – I bought the car on the 2nd June and left it there on the 3rd June to have the windows tinted. They apparently did the CPO inspection on the 5 June (according to the report). I went to pick up my car on the 5 June at 1pm.
This entire process was sketchy. How is it at all possible that they did any kind of inspection when all the things stated above were missed? If it was a mistake on their part then they should have had the decency to admit it and rectify the situation.
I am still trying to get my car issues resolved. Joe Gunter refused to take any of my calls or e-mails. I received canned responses by customer service reps such as this one: “Every interaction with our dealers should leave you with a lasting, positive impression, and I'm so sorry this was not the case for you with Gunther Volkswagen of Delray Beach. We have documented your concerns and appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention.”
I am now at a loss at what to do: I can either lose thousands of dollars or stay with a car that could have many more unforeseen issues. Gunther Volkswagen of Delray Beach and Joe Gunther lack integrity and professionalism. They are sly and make money through selling cars under false pretenses.
