Never work for Hair Excitement! If I went into the details, I could take a week. So I'll try to sum the screwed up company as much as I can. First of all the owner John Langlois sleeps with his stylists to move them up a level, held a meeting about his Redken product diversion and lied to our faces, takes two dollars for every client serviced out of your paycheck. His father owns Empire and submits a list to only Hair Excitements on how good they think each student is and rates them on a scale of one to five.
They call the soon to graduate students to try and snatch the best ones up so they won't go anywhere else but their company. They take company wide days off for education and don't pay you for the missed time. Or the travel expenses to Portsmouth. They say that the education is free but that is what the $2 goes for. They hardly ever change their tanning bulbs even the burnt out ones and try to trick the customer. They have sales that they advertise and they say that the sale is only for one week to get a flood of people in the first week when it is actually for a month. They say it is a marketing technique.
They tell people they do not sell Redken products anymore because they do not let us discount their products. That's a lie, it's because John is legal trouble with Redken but participating in product diversion. They make you sign a contract stating that if you quit or if you get fired, you cannot work within 10 miles of the salon for a year. You cannot call your clients or let them know where you are going. They try to create a monopoly on all of the areas that they are in, they have 19 salons and the one that I was at, there were three all in close proximity. If you do not meet their quotas you will be definately be fired.
Some of them are outrageously high. You have to basically shove product down the clients throaghts to win some of his trips that he offers. On a baseball team, if the team does bad, they fire the coach. The salon was not doing so hot so they hired another full time manager who pranced around like she was hot sh-- and was extremely rude to the customers. My client and I heard the manager call the stylist "hooches". The managers sit around and read magazines but you are not allowed to on your down time.
The managers have a weekly meeting with the district manager to see if the stylist are selling enough for them because it's all about the money and not letting the stylist develop and grow. The clients won't prebook because their afraid that the stylist won't be working there come time for the appt because they all see and know that they go through sylist like you change your underwear.
There was a casino night and John had some girls going down on him on the dance floor. There was a hair show and they had men strip teasing on stage. That's not hair and that is very unprofessional! The men where making out with the stylist on stage in front of everyone! If you leave or quit they talk trash about you even if you were a good stylist. This company is not professional and is a nightmare!

I completely agree that this organization is a total scam. They take $2 off each appointment that is not a pre book. This was not explained when I was recruited from Empire Beauty School. They pay 42% commission on a hair cut, but if the person comes back with a complaint, they take the WHOLE PRICE OF THE HAIRCUT FROM THE STYLISTS PAY CHECK. ILLEGAL?? This was also never explained. They also require 4 days of training that IS NOT PAID FOR. ILLEGAL??

I would like to first say that I've been working for John Langlois for 5 years and have had nothing but huge success.
Let's talk about what happens when you are a hair designer and go to work for a salon: Do you always receive HEALTH & DENTAL benefits? How about frequent ADVANDCE EDUCATION? Or multiple chances to go on FREE TRIPS throughout a year?
All of these opportunities are available to you at Hair Excitement. Also available is growth potential, motivational workshops, education with top platform artists from around the country and many more.
My belief is that the people writing or saying these "not completely true statements" never gave Hair Excitement their all. Because of course you can't expect to have things like free trips just handed to you, you have to work and work hard to benefit. It wouldn't be called a contest if everyone won.
I work in a Hair Excitement location where half of the designers have worked for John for over 10 years. That is incredible. There are not too many salon owners that can say they have that kind of employee loyalty. I plan on working at Hair Excitement giving my all and reaping all the benefits for years to come.
To any of you who's beliefs in this company are A BIT askew ask yourself this, Do I have the drive and determination to work hard and give at least 100% while at work, do I really love what I do? If you love doing hair and working hard, you too can enjoy working for a company that rewards these things.

First of all I would like everybody to know that the previous report written about Hair Excitement is not completly correct and if you are going to write about people and their reputation, you should at least tell the truth. It is apparent that the reports being written are from a previous dis-gruntle employee that doesnt have a clue about all of the employees that work for Hair Excitement.
I personally have worked for the company for many years,and have grown professionally and had a great time with all of my co- workers along the way.
I think it is important for people to know that we at Hair Excitement have been given alot of opportunities to go on alot of great trips.I would also like to include that many of the employees have worked very hard to grow without ever sleeping with John Langlois.
If you are a guest of Hair Excitement, then you already know that we are a group of professionals that take pride in ourselves and our carrers.The only reason I am writing this is because every story has two sides and lets at least be fair to hear both.
I am proud to work for Hair Excitement and the people I work with and for. Not everybody is perfect, but at least working for John langlois, almost everybody that has worked for him has made a great deal of money,enjoyed many trips, and experienced alot more eduacation then any other company in this industry has to offer.
