Harris Teeter is using false advertising and Bait and Switch methods to sell holiday season turkeys.
Thursday, 11/13 sign posted at the turkey bin stated three day sale on turkeys starting Friday, 11/14/03, for .29 cents a pound.

The frozen turkeys were in the bin, Butterball and Harris Teeter brands. The sign made no distinction between brands for the sale.

At 9 AM Friday morning, I attended the "sale". The sign had been changed over night stating customers must purchase $25.oo of goods to get the turkey at .29 cents a lb. Still no distinction made on the sign at the turkey bin as to brands to which the sale applied.

At the far end of the bin, away from the sale sign, Butterball turkeys were reduced to .99 cent/lb, no $25 purchace required.

I went to the meat counter to confirm the price. The meat manager said the .29 cents per lb. was on all turkeys. I went to the front desk and again it was confirmed by the assistant manager.

At the check out couinter, the price of .99cent/lb was applied using the store discount card.

The changing of the sale signs over night was deplorable. I will di very limited shopping at Harris Teeter in the future.

No Rip-off or bait and switch

As an associate of Harris Teeter #0029 in Aberdeen, NC, and have worked in a few other stores, I can tell you that there was no bait and switch here. Besides, if we do post limits, you are told on the ad itself about possible limits-look on the back page of the ad, we reserve the right to have limits on any discounts in the ad. How dare you try to ripoff Harris Teeter and then put the blame on us. You have no right to do that. Shame on you.

It is 100% self-explanatory ...sounds to me like you were simply trying to get a much better Butterball turkey

I was watching TV tonight and just so happened to see a commercial from Harris Teeter. It clearly states that it is the Harris Teeter brand turkeys that are 29 cents a pound. Checking the weekly online ad put out by the store, I see (again) that it is the Harris Teeter brand that is on sale. It is VERY clear and there is no bait/switch or deception involved.

Whether or not you were told something differently in the store, keep in mind people are only human and may make mistakes sometimes. This could have been avoided by a quick glance at one of the many ads that are available the second you set food inside the store.

It sounds to me like you were simply trying to get a much better Butterball turkey for the price of the cheaper generic turkeys, and quickly became disgruntled when the store refused to honor your demand. Get over it! As far as you doing "very limited" shopping at Harris Teeter in the future, I'm sure they will not mind one bit. Why would a store want to attract customers like you who try to get something for nothing, and then post false reports on the internet? You are much more suited for shopping at Food Lion or better yet Piggly Wiggly!
