I bought a one-half carat diamond channel-set band for a wedding ring for my future wife. It needed to be sized from a 7 to a 6 and engraved. In addition, I needed to get a 14k gold, 6mm comfort fit band engraved for myself.

I spoke to Helzberg Diamonds, and asked if they could do both without any problem. Both rings were new and in perfect condition. I had the jeweler on staff examine the rings and she agreed of their condition. After asking about prices, I left the rings with Helzberg to be sized.

The value of the woman's band was $768.00.
My ring was valued at $250.

I instructed them to call me if there were to be any questions or problems.

I picked up my ring first. The engraving did not include certain characters that I had requested. They claimed that they do not have the characters that I need. I was astounded that I was not informed of such a thing. Though, it did not affect the essence of the meaning of the engraved text.

Disappointed, I accepted their explanation.
That is the story of my ring.

A couple days later I went in to collect my fiance's ring. Cleaned, polished and beautiful... I was immediately happy. To be sure, I decided to grab a toothpick and view the ring under their scope to check the ring thoroughly. I found 2 loose stones and numerous gaps between them.
The stones were Perfectly fitted before they worked on it.

Needless to say, my initial delight quickly turned to frustration. The jeweler attempted to make excuses ranging from, "It's a normal consequence of sizing." to "You should have been aware of this possibility." to "We can size it back to 7 and remove the engraving and you can do a warranty claim with the original seller."

Wait... yes... that's right... they suggested that I commit fraud on their behalf. h*o-Kay... well...

I am not going to commit fraud for Helzberg.

The only other thing they suggested was that they could tighten the settings. I am not a rich man... and having little recourse... I agreed to allow them to fix the ring.

Well. Now the stones seem to be tight.
The gaps are Not gone.
The setting is Altered.
The stones don't glimmer as well because they are not set the way the jewelry designer set them...
The top of the ring has a GOUGE in the gold...
The engraving is not straight!

Helzberg says that they WILL NOT warranty any of their work except the sizing.

I hand selected this ring for my WEDDING.
On top of the general Monkey Work and Screw Ups...
THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR ALL OF THEIR CHIMP JEWELRY WORK

I explained that the devaluation of the ring and the hassle alone as a result of their work should entitle me to the courtesy of "no charge."
Also, I should get a warranty on their work.

They said "How do we know how much this ring is/was worth?"

What an Outrage! They continued to argue and repeat thier explanations. They continued to ask me "Well sir, what do you want us to do?"

How many times do I need to say it?

* Why should I need to come with the solution, anyway? *
* They should have presented me with various solutions. *
* That is what GOOD BUSINESSES DO for valued customers. *
* Helzberg Diamonds is the LAST PLACE you should go. *
* Helzberg Diamonds DOES NOT VALUE their customers. *

With the ring in my hand, I told them I am not paying for the work. They threatened to call the police. Not wanting to involve another monkey in this madness, I signed the receipt with the words "Under Threat and Duress" by my signature.

I am filing a dispute with the Visa Card... and I plan to call the corporate office of Helzberg. What a terrible ripoff.

None of that will reimburse me or fix the problem, though. I am stuck with a screwed up ring from a million/billionaire company. The amount of greed here is devilish.

Does Helzberg realise that they work with the most precious possessions of human beings? Do they show care and concern?
Simple, normal customer service? Quality work?

No. They are ruthless, greedy, vengeful and fradulent theifs.

Well. There was a man and woman representing Helzberg while I was there. After all of this... I told them that I hope they have a similar experience. The woman, while obviously using a single cell of her brain, egotistically and in a 'matter-of-fact' way said to me,
"I Already had a similar experience with my wedding ring."

I grinned, "Good. Looks like you already got yours. That karma is a b-tch isn't it? It's already ahead of the game!"

She teared up. For a moment, I considered pity.
No. This witch is definitely not worthy of any pity.
Instead... I thought... "WONDERFUL! THANK GOD!"
You deserved it.

So now I have a botched wedding ring...
and I don't have $768 dollars to buy another one.

Thank you, Helzberg Diamonds. May your business dry up and get sucked up by the depths of the h*ll from which you came.

It's a federal offence to offer false advertising.

Try this new lawful slogan:
"GET SCREWED. GO TO H*LL. HELZBERG DIAMONDS."

Marketing doesn't like it, eh? Hmm.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

WHAT????!!!!

First, Are you an idiot? If you bought a ring some where and got a warrenty why wouldn't you use it?
Second, I've worked in the jewelery business for a long time and what they told you is true and any jeweler would laugh in your face if you told them it wasn't! It's common sense! When you cut metal off and pull it down to attach it again thus making it a smaller size it will release tension! That's how it works. Duh!
Third, Why should it all be free? I agree you should pay for what you wanted in the beginning and anything that was there fault should be covered at there expense but the problems your describing are common problems. Most jewelers fix before any customer sees them, sadly for this poor store there jeweler didn't see it before your crazy a*s walked through there door.
Fourth, I'm tired of customers thinking they know everything. You don't and if you just stop freaking out on the person who is trying to help you maybe you'll learn something. And being mean does not help your situation. It's always been alot easier for me to truely want to help someone when there not screaming at me over something they know nothing about!
Finally my Fifth and final thing, why do you have to be a d*ck to people? really? is it there fault? call customer service if you think your not being treated fair. Don't be a jerk just to stick it to them, it doesn't help and they will remember you. And they won't give a sh*t to help you next time you come in any where you go.

LOTS OF CUSTOMERS GO INTO HELZBERG EVERY DAY AND WALK OUT FEELING APPECIATED FOR SHOPPING THERE. WHEN I WORKED THERE I SAW CUSTOMERS THAT HAD SHOPPED THERE FOR 50 OR 60 YEARS COMPLETELY HAPPY. SO I HOPE YOU TREAT THE NEXT JEWELERY STORE YOU GO TO A LITTLE NICER AND I HOPE YOU DON'T COME INTO MY STORE DUMB A*S.

You are full of it...

First off, a 1/2 carat ring that cost $768? please.... first lie.

Second, yes, I worked for this company. Why would they warrant anything but the work they completed? If, an electrician comes in your house do they warrant the plumbing too?

Third, that store has no jeweler 'on staff' all of the work is done by an independant contractor off site.

Fourth, you decided to check the stones with a tooth pick.... that was a good idea. But, I doubt you came up with it. Afterall, you are the one that spent $768 on a channel set band so I doubt you had that amount of wits about you...

I talked to the corporate office in
North Kansas City, Missouri today.

A woman named Julie assisted me.

She seemed as if she is as concerned and appalled as myself.
She saw a severe problem without my needing to go into all of the gory details.

The simple fact that the ring came back damaged was enough for her to be very concerned. I gave the rest of the details, including the treats, etc... she did not comment with her own opinions except that she indicated a strong desire to investigate it.

Of course I understand her lack of comments:
1) It's not her place.
2) If Helzberg is indeed reputable: Negative comments would not
help to give me that impression.
3) Her lack of comments is an appropriate way to imply that
Mr. Brett Sanders (the rep at the store) is to be completely
blamed for these actions.

I gave her my telephone number, and she told me that I should be hearing from her within the next couple of days.

She asked of my wedding date so that she knows what time frame that she is working around.

At this point, I can say that it has not been difficult to get corporate attention on the matter.
I did, however, call the corporate number listed with the BBB and NOT the general customer support line.

At this point, I am hopeful.
At this point, I am of the belief that the Altamonte Springs, Florida store is under poor management, or poor representation.

Hopefully, that is the case.
Hopefully, there will be proper justice done by corporate.

Further updates will follow.
